Farmall M
New member here looking for advice. My wife and I just purchased a 49 acre property. The former owner wants to sell me his tractor, with attachments.

The tractor is a 1993 JD model 5200 4WD. It has a JD model 540 front end loader and a 6ft. squealer rotary cutter made by Bush Hog.

The paint appears to be decent, it has a canopy, the rear tires look pretty good, the front ones are well worn. He says he thinks it has about 2000 hrs, but I would not take that to the bank.

He says he is firm at $16000. I am a novice at this, my previous purchase was a 1954 Farmall M for $800.

Is his price reasonable? And/or what do you think it is worth?

thanks, I appreciate any advice.

I checked tractorhouse for that model they had a 1995 with fel for 17500 (1800 hours ) so from that the price looks fair to me.

Have you had a chance to start it and use it ?It should have an hourmeter , maybe not working ? 22 yrs old and only 2k hrs , possible I guess . For me he is about 4k too high .

I also checked out Tractorhouse. These are dealer prices, BTW.
$16K appears to be a bit high, but not extraordinarily high...maybe $2K.
The tractor is local (can't get much more local, in fact!)...I'd go for it. I suggest you try to make it part of the property, if you haven't actually signed the sales contract.

You just bought the property, So simply tell him your tapped and offer an amount about 3500 less for it. If he bites he bites if not he needs to move it from your property. Motivate his sale and be firm about it!

First thanks to all for the replies. The lowboy was coming tomorrow ( he has other equipment he has to move also) to pick it up so I had to make a quick decision. I ended up buying it for $15000. The bush hog turned out to be a 7 footer, so that was good. I still think I paid about a thousand too much, but finding a tractor and then the attachments, then paying someone to deliver it for me, would have been a bit of a hassle. I figure the convenience was worth something.

Congrats on the purchase and good luck. If you get a chance, post some pictures.
