Compact Diesel trucks that we can't get here

Gas around my place is $1.74 per gallon and diesel is $3.39.
That's ridiculous you're paying only slight more for a gallon of petrol than we pay for a litre. I'd have a diesel any day if I could get diesel that cheap... $0.91/litre that's unheard of here.

Gas here is $2.15 and diesel is $.90 to $1.00 more. We just had 5 cents added to the gas tax in VA this year. I wonder why the price between gas and diesel varys so much by location.

Not so quick. Say a gas truck gets 15 mpg at $1.80 per gallon that's $.12 per mile.

The diesel being $3.50 per gallon would have to get 29 mpg to break even.

Right now in my area diesel doesn't pay.

There are well no doka on those new generation vans on sale in the us?

Have a VW T4 2.4D doka and its one practical pickup.

I think Ive seen your T4 in your vids. Its a cool truck.

Basically there is nothing like your truck offered over here. You can get fullsize pickups in Cab and Chassis, with crew cabs. No DoKas in Sprinter or any of the other Euro sourced vans AFAIK.

VW doesnt sell anything "commercial" here.

That's interesting because here (oz) petrol (gas) and diesel are about the same. How much is diesel over there? It is about $6.82/gal here.

Here, 90cents/L vs. $1.15/L for diesel.

Gas is down quite a bit at the moment, but there is more to it than that in the USA.... diesel pricing hasn't been allowed to drop below gas there in quite a long time.

Eastern Canada has more normal pricing variations over time (probably Western Canada too, I just don't know their price swings). Presently diesel is higher here, other times close to parity, or even below gas pricing.

I guess this means all the USA TBN'ers will start demanding gasoline Ag Tractors ! ;)

When compared to most other Western countries, fuel taxes have historically been much lower in the USA.

If I could get diesel here for that price compared to petrol here. The hilux here does 27mpg. For what we pay for diesel it is around $0.20/mi. I guess in your situation with petrol being so much cheaper it is not worth it, here being approximately the same price the benefits of diesel win in my opinion. Even so I am jealous of your 'expensive' diesel prices... :confused2:

id love to upgrade my E350 but the tow rateings on the Sprinter vans arnt keeping up with the US marketing figures. If you can put 12K behind an AL 1/2 ton Ford truck, you can put more than 8500 lbs behind the crew van dually sprinter.

If the engine is in a HD application making 80-95% of it max rated power, diesel wins. In a light dty application where the engine is making 25% of it's max rated capacity, gasoline wins.
This was true with port injected gassers. Now with today's direct injection gassers , the gasser has further encroached into all of diesels advantages without the liabilities of a diesel.

Ze Germans are known for their conservatism. IMHO Ford and the rest of the big3 are really engaged in a marketing D*** measuring contest with those outrageous tow and horsepower figures. I wouldnt tow 12k behind my F150 regardless what the marketing types say.

A look at the comparison page on the Sprinter website shows the 3500 Sprinter with the 2.1l or 3.0l Diesel with a reasonable tow capacity of 7500lbs and the e350 with the 5.4l or 6.8l having 7400lbs. The 2015 Sprinter Van. Built to Work Smarter.

Looks like the Sprinter beats the e350 in towing slightly, and it does it with 1/2 as much engine.
