This is the start of a small holding pond to give the deer on my property a place to get a drink of water in between rain showers.I got this idea when I saw a small deer drink from a puddle were water collects. It was really to muddy to dig New years day.It is about 3.5ft deep I hope to make it twice as wide when it dries out some. I am also going to put in two pear trees & two apple trees for the deer. The Kioti was a muddy dog after this! Got the pressure washer to it before putting it back in the garage.

Oh you are in trouble now! I started out the same way about ten years ago. The last enlargement involved borrowing a 680 Case extenda-hoe. Water now is about ten feet deep but it changes with the seasons. Normally 12-15' by spring thaw.
Nephew did get his first deer from it about five years back......

Digging is the fun part, hauling off the dirt is when it becomes work. :)

You will find that putting in a pond is best during a dry season. Once it fills with water, it takes a long time to dry up so you can work on it again. I would leave it as is till summer or fall (or when ever a drought is occurring) and then try to dig it out without delay till it is complete.

Living an hour or so south of you i cant beleive your digging!!!! its been basically raining since thanksgiving!!!! Its pretty much been a muddy mess for 3 weeks here!

Looks like someone got a new tractor and was thinking up a project for it ;)
