Thanks. We are having the shutter issues on our truck. I was saving money to install the full race intercooler etc. We have shutter, flashing lights, and full limp mode at engine rpms above 2000. All in all the truck has cracked plugs, misfires, pain in the tail to drive but still gets 14-15 mpg. Not happy with Fords service on the issue but we do like the truck.

How the heck could you still like the truck with all those problems?:eek:


I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like you need a new dealer to service it.

After reading this I will look at the 5.0 liter engine verses the echo boost engine when it comes time to buy a new ford truck.

In defense of the Ecoboost I'll bet without looking that it is single-handedly the most numerous of any boosted engine in history, gas or diesel. So even if a tiny % of owners see problems that will still mean thousands of trucks.

I think the technology is great in the ecoboosts but I still have some doubts in my mind about the carbon build up on the back of the valves that direct injected engines can see.

While sitting on the fence for engine choice, I do like the 5.0. I like to keeps things a long time and modify them. There are tons of speed parts for the 5.0 too.

Very similar to the 6.0 diesel, a lot of them on the road = a lot of issues. I had 2 6.0 diesels, both trouble free. However, still do not like the idea of modifying a $40k truck with a warranty.
