Conventional oil vs synthetic oil question

I agree. Put any extra $ in a better filter.
I have 2 turbo engines. Both have always run dino. Both run perfect.
I always ran dino in my twisted to the max rpm race cars.

The only reason I use the Motorcraft Blend is that is what is recommended. It appears to be a quality product and you can get the 5 gallon jugs for 17.99 at walmart. Motorcraft filter is about 6 bucks so I do pretty cheap oil changes.

On a related note: I asked a knowledgeable friend of mine why haven't diesel prices come down like gasoline......

Even though the U.S. refineries make more diesel than gasoline (see: U.S. Number and Capacity of Petroleum Refineries ), we use more diesel than we make ("Refineries in the United States produced an average of about 12 gallons of diesel fuel and 19 gallons of gasoline from one barrel (42 gallons) of crude oil in 2013." ); .....so apparently the reason the price of diesel is held up in the U.S. - is due to its supply vs. demand ratio.

I use the synthetic in the WRX cuz the manual says to. I don't want any warranty issues. Do you change the oil very frequently in your Hi RPM race cars?

I wouldn't expect lube oil to come down very much since most of the cost goes into the non crude related additive package followed by the base stock refinement cost. If there is a decrease I would expect it to be very modest.

Really ??? I have nothing to gain from the sale of synthetics... I use to run synthetics in my race car...all synthetics aren't created equal either... Don't kid yourself... top of the line synthetics are way ahead of Dino.. Period !

I think I have been converted. I see my salvation in synthetics across the board. I was running Rotella T5 10-30 blend in my diesels that specified 10-30 or 30. In my cars, i have run full synthetic except an old Caddy Northstar that drinks syn, but gets 2000 miles between qts on Dino (those were rough bore engines).

Those Northstar engines drank oil from day one. Drove my grandfather nuts being a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership owner and driving nothing but till he sold it after nearly 40 years. He bought his first Caddy the next day and it used oil. It drove him nuts.
