Conventional oil vs synthetic oil question

You can blend whatever percentage you want. Put 3 quarts Dino in for every 2 quarts Syn if 40%syn is the mix you want.

Dino oils usually broke down in a mater of hours indicated by spike in temperature as the bonds broke. They would come out black. We ran synthetic mobil 1 it ran all weekend, aborted the test and inspected the sample it had not broken down.

In real world as others mentioned even synthetics still come out brown after several thousand miles as they've picked up contaminants from combustion gases etc.

So dino turns dark from too much heat, and/but, synthetic from too much contaminants? Not sure I believe your conclusions.
My engines run 220F max. At what temp does dino turn to the color black? Why?
I just changes the oil on a high revving 4 cylinder at 5k miles, as usual. Used walmart dino as usual. The color is brown, not black...

The water temperature may only reach 220 but I'm sure oil sees parts that are much higher than that at some point in the engine.

That still doesn't explain it.

Just curious if you compared the product numbers/SKU to confirm it's really the same product? A 50% mark up at AZ seems high.

Never looked at SKU's but 5 qts is 5 qts. Will try that next time. I need to change my son's Ranger now.

synthetic oil suffers some breakdown from heat..Just not near the extent as dino ..Auto manufacture's not only rely on the fluids in the radiator to cool the engine. Engine oil has 2 functions.. help cool and lube the engine

Could be the way one changes oil as well or a combination of heat and contaminates. If one changes oil w/o warming up the engine, many contaminates are not suspended as a result and stay sunk at the bottom of the pan. Put new oil on top of this crap over and over, you may get "dark" colored oil right quickly.

Without reading all this, I'll insert the following. I currently have a 7.3 Powerstroke diesel truck. It dirties the oil as soon as it's cranked after a change. I used to have an '04 Dodge Cummins. It took that engine a thousand miles to dirty the oil. Have no idea why.

As to dino oil dirtying faster and that being an indication that it's working better. I don't buy that. I think synthetic oil is less susceptible to accepting and holding contaminants than dino oil. Synthetic tends to dump the contaminants in the filter where dino becomes infected beyond the ability of the filter to clean.

I run dino oil in my Powerstroke. I run dino in my tractors. I run synthetic in my gas engines. No logical reason. That's just how I roll. :confused3:

THE 7.3 Holds some oil on the upper end that does not get drained out the oil plug. This oil goes for the ride and puts old oil back in with your new oil change. Go to Dieselstop and they explain it.
