B21 transmission problem

Just bought a B21 equipted with a loader and backhoe, 244.5 hours, runs and operates great, the problem is the rear wheels are not pulling, the front wheel dr is working and will pull the machine, I put the ouriggers down and picked the rear wheels off the ground and I turned one of the back wheels and the other side turns feely so I don't think it is in the rear end, it has a hydrostatic trans wheres the best place to start, thanks for any info,

The thread is great,, I just bought this last week, drug it home, pulled it off the trailer and headed to deer camp, I am fairly mech. inclined but this scares me a little, neverbroke one in two before, but I guess thers a first time for everything, the machine runs and operates great, the loader and hoe alos work great, I got this for a reasonable price(2700) so I can afford to put some in it, guess when I get thru chasing these deer, I'll start in on it, the pictures were also great,

Wow!!! That is an awesome deal you got. I have been looking at the B21's and think I really want one. Missed out on a couple so far, but will keep looking. Yes, that thread was great. You have to love people willing to take the time to post all this info for the rest of us. Good luck with the repairs and keep us posted. If you are fairly mechanical, I would not be afraid to jump into it. I have only split one tractor, but have seen my father have his Case 580 torn apart after he loaned it out to my uncle and he broke the ring and pinion

Forgot to mention that if you do not have a shop manual, it would be a great investment before you start the repair.

I finally got this broke down with the help of an old mech,,I might say he got it broke down with a little help from me, I mean we are in the belly of the beast, the ring gear and pinion are toast, it also broke the housing, I mentioned to him about the shifting fork that was mentioned in an earlier post and it is also broken, all the parts are ordered, some new, found the housing from a salvage yard, soon as we get it all gathered we'll (he'll) get it all back together.

I have a B21 too, and I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to imagine what kind of use could do that damage. Anyway wish you the best on the repair job.

it wasn't normal use, this machine can off a big country club and somebody manhandled the shift lever and broke the shifting fork and when that went down thru the trans it ate up the ring gear and pinion and busted the trans housing, we are close to getting this all back together, a little over a K in parts,

Thanks for the heads up on the cause, I'll have to be careful shifting my B21, it can sometimes be finicky about going into gear. I'm curious what it looks like inside, did you take any pics of the tear down, broken parts?

My shifter was finicky too because the neutral slot on the gate was not aligned with the actual neutral detent in the linkage. I folded over the sheet metal tongue to get it out of the way, that solved the problem. Just speculating, it could be the operator became frustrated at not being able to get into the neutral detent, and put enough force on the fork to push it into two gears at the same time.
