I took the lift cover off my 841 to investigate why the 3 pt was not always lifting to maximum height. I cannot find a thing wrong in there - all the linkages and valves appear to be properly adjusted and working fine. The pump makes excellent pressure and the hitch will pick up a 6' bush hog effortlessly...just not as high as it should.

The only thing I noticed was the "lift ram arm" has an eccentric that kind of rides on a pin that sticks out from one of the linkage arms. The pin has a flat spot worn into it and the eccentric cam has a slight depression worn into it from riding against the pin.

The pin is a press-fit into the linkage arm. Does anyone know if this could be the problem and, if so, how I might correct it?

BTW, the hitch will rise all the way if I pull gently on the yoke while sitting in the drivers seat. It will also rise all the way on its own sometimes - just not ALL the time.

That eccentric is the position control cam. The profile determines the increments of lift of the lift arms as the lift control lever is raised up toward its maximum height. It is hardened, as the color shows, so I'm not surprised that you find wear on the pin. Does that account for not attaining maximum lift? Maybe just a little if it allows the control valve spool to return to neutral a bit prematurely. You might replace it with a roll pin to see if that cures the condition.

A worn cam follower pin absolutely affects the upper end of the lift range. it's a common problem, a new pin is readily available. Finding "nothing wrong in there" while identifying a worn cam follower pin is simply incomplete troubleshooting.

Geez, thanks for advising me on the incomplete troubleshooting. I'll bet lots of people hang around your garage soaking up all that superior wisdom, too.

Hey, I chose my words carefully. You said you couldn't find anything wrong. There absolutely is something wrong. I didn't call you names, insult your intelligence or demean you. Your troubleshooting was incomplete. It takes experience or a ready source of information to troubleshoot mechanical problems. It appears you have both in short supply, as well as a thin epidermis.
