I am like you....tractor newbie. I purchased a used CK20 with 97 hours 2 months ago. The tractor had warranty work at 27 hours then the original owner owned it. The tractor had easy hours on it (mowing, plowing, firewood hauling with a few stumps removed with the backhoe.) All the fluids were changed at that service except the front axle. Being crazy about mechanical maintenance I decided to research all the fluids and replace everything. Glad I did. The hydro fluid was pretty contaminated even though it was changed out at 27 hours. All sorts of stuff came out the drains (small pieces of metal and even what looked like gray RTV). I even saw some metal with orange paint in the bottom of my drain pan. The magnet on the main drain was only half covered with metal (don't think this was that bad). The stuff that came out the drain and was stuck to the bottom of my drain basin after dumping it was a little shocking. I'd change it.

Thanks Stickyhb for telling me this. I'll definitely do the full maintenance. I've read elsewhere here about the same trash and shavings in the oil so I better not skimp on the maintenance. As for being a newbie to tractors I think I'm as rookie as one can be....Still trying to figure out how to best use my ratchet rake and how not to tear up my tractor...Already broke a tail light pulling out a tree that came down and hit it.

I guess us Canadians should get some kind of a freebee cause we pay a lot more for everything. All Kioti owners here in Canada get the first 50 hour service free. This way they will see if there is any damage done during that first break in period. I live in a remote area so that may be the reason why they will do the house call at no charge other than the fluids and filters..

This is the ONLY thing that got my hydraulic filter off and that was after numerous tries of various strap wrenches over two weeks or so, along with borrowing a large, stronger friend who barely got it off on his second or third try. Crescent CW15 15-Inch Chain Wrench - Adjustable Wrenches - Amazon.com

If the rear wheel had been removed, it would have been easier. However, no way that was going to happen. At my 50 hour mark I changed all lubricants and filters as they are relatively inexpensive insurance. My magnetic hydraulic oil drain plugs had large piles of gunk stuck to them.

Thanks sdef! That's exactly the info I needed...I'm ordering it right now through Amazon. Hopefully like MoKelly said, maybe I won't have too much of a problem but at least I'll show up with a proven wrench, along with a cheater pipe.:)

You are welcome. This was a very trying process for me. The filter is strongest at the bottom, by the closed end, so get your grip there. Kioti is known for having a gorilla tighten this filter, along with the hand throttle assembly.

If your hand throttle is difficult to move take a look at this easy fix: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...286824-kioti-dk-throttle-lubrication-pix.html

Smart move in my opinion:thumbsup:

Thanks k0ua!

Before I logged into Amazon I went to a guy where I work who has a lot of tools and I lucked out. He's loaning me his chain wrench that looks just like the one sdef recommended. Williams WC-4. And a cheater pipe for extra leverage. Let's see if I can post a photo for those seeking out the same info as me.

I think you'll only need that chain wrench for the first time. My first removal was hard but after that, a rubber strap wrench works fine. Enjoy the new toy!

True, you are not going to put that filter back on like the big ole gorrilla did at the factory. I wonder what they pay him.:)

I haven't reached 50 hours yet so no maintenance done. But I do have a question about the schedule I have for a nice TBN'er (online manuel).

For instance on line 1 it says engine oil get's change first at 50 hours. Then it has a star in the 100 hour block. I assume it means it's every 100 following. Same with the engine oil filter, first time is at 50 hours and then at 200 hours and I assume every 200 hours after that. Typically with a car or bike the oil filter get's changed with the oil, right?
