4' LED "shop" lights for ~ $32 at Costco

I replaced the 4 foot fluorescent in our bathroom with two led's. They are Phillips 12 watt bulbs. 830 lumens each. There is noticeably more light.

Forget all those lights. After reading on TBN the term high bay lights, I ask an electrician about it. He said sure how many you want. I brought home some 400 watt metal halide fixtures and bulbs. They were old temporary lights off of a job. I got 3 up so far in place of the 8' fluorescent lights.

Who cares what they cost to run. I can see out in the driveway a 100' from the shop. Inside it makes a world of difference. I have them at 12' and it has changed the whole attitude inside the building. I've got some small led undercounter lighting that I leave on all the time. That way I can go in and get something without cutting on the big lights.

I'm going to have to start looking at these. I put about 25 cheap 4 foot T-8 units in my pole barn a few years ago (from Menards when they were on sale) and two of them have failed now. Are these really brighter than the T-8s? If so I will put them over the work bench and relocate the ones that are there now.

Do you mean the metal halide light?

I had 4' 2 bulb T12's up until last year that lasted about 5 years. I had a ballast go out in one and decided to replace it with a T5 HO 2 bulb from Home Depot. Once I installed it I could tell such a difference that I went ahead and replaced all 19 of the T12's with the T5's man it is so much brighter.

If you bump one of those LED lights with a long piece of steel does it rain toxic glass down on you? If not I'll buy it!

I picked up one of the costco units and used it to replace a standard 4' 2 tube shop light near the radio area in the basement. It is noticably brighter than the adjacent flourescent with a "whiter" light and zero noise or flicker. I think 3 of the led units could probably do the job of the 5 in the original configuration in my work area.

I have had 5 high pressure sodium 400 watt fixtures in my building for the last 24 years. I think I have purchased maybe 8 bulbs total over that time frame. The bulbs were around $12/13 a bulb then. Now they are around $16/17 a bulb. I just put up 2 more fixtures the same. They are used from the same time frame/ 24 years ago/ because I knew who and when they were installed. The original fixtures were used at $100 each but only a couple of years old then. The last two I paid $150 each. They are 110V and mounted 12 ft plus. I don't know if I have saved any money over the years and or wasted any money over the years but they sure do light the place up. I would not have anything else. Plus the wife pays the electric bill. LOL Later
