I don't know of any reason you could not. Cooking oil has been used as well as used motor oil. May want to mix it with diesel to thin it.
The problem will be the amount of pollution produced. Diesel is highly refined to reduce emissions.
If you have a tier 3 or 4 you may plug up your exhaust very quickly.

i have a Isuzu 4bdt on a water pump it will run on clean hydraulic oil for 2 hours with no smoke at 4 hours it is smoking and starting to run ruff shut down at 6 hours the crank case had gained 1 quart of oil. changed oil and started on diesel cleaned up and run with no problem for 100 hours stopped checked oil was 1/2 qt. low. the same thing happened to the 4 cylinder Cummins diesel. i have a 3-53 detroit 2 stroke i am going to try next also i mite try to run it thru a centrifuge and cut it with gas. was hopping someone had figured it out.

I guess my question would be why? Do you have a bunch of it left over? If so and you really were desperate to get rid of it, I'd only run about 10% of it at a time.

The next question I would have is how many metal particles are in the hydraulic fluid? Not many you say? Then why did you change it? A lot you say? Then you want to run that thru your injection pump and injectors?... eh.. I don't think this running your used oils thru your diesel engine is a particularly good idea. Just my opinion, it is your tractor.

all of the oil comes from filtered systems and i run it thru a 5 micron filter. the pumps burn 55 gallons a day of $3.00a gal. diesel i run 40 to 50 days each summer if i could run some of the free hydraulic oil could save up to $8,000 and i have over 2000 gal. its mostly vegetable based and is biodegradable. i have used 5 gal. in 50 gal of diesel in each of the big tractors allis chalmers 7060 and 7080 is 235 hp. for over a year pulled a21' offset disc changed oil every 100 hrs.tractors run perfect with a 10%mix i don't have any newer type tractors the newest is a 1980 model 7080 all have cab and air

Gervais, that makes sense, sounds like a big cost savings. I'd just keep blending it and see how it goes, maybe during the summer you can go up to a 50-50 blend. Older indirect injection and mechanical injected engines are going to be a lot more forgiving than a newer high pressure common rail engine would.

i would want to filter it before i put it into my fuel. But i probably would not exceede 25% oil in the fuel.

It's the very next higher boiling cut above diesel. In the old days, Mercedes actually recommended adding some auto transmission fluid to the diesel to clean things out. Auto transmission fluid is probably virtually the same as hydraulic fluid. I'd certainly never let it idle very long with straight hydraulic fluid, but you could probably run it full bore for a long time on it.
