4' LED "shop" lights for ~ $32 at Costco

I think the LED fixture lighting market for high bay lighting will drop in price considerably over the next couple of years. Look at the prices of LEDs for ATVs/tractors and such. Just a matter of time.

My buddy just ordered 4 LED 8' bulbs for about $50/each to fit in his existing fixtures (remove ballast). He's going to try them out.

I just had a quote for some high bay T5 5 bulb fixtures that includes bulbs for $120 apiece. I figure our shop will need at least 8 of them. The LEDs quoted were too expensive IMO.

I've replaced most of the bulbs in my house with Feit BR30 and BR40 LED bulbs. The BR40 uses 19 watts and produces equivalent light to a 100 watt incandescent. The light quality is excellent, whiter than incandescent with no ghastliness. They're rated for 25,000 hours. I buy them on Ebay for about $10 each in quantity ten. In my barn I just get a $3 light socket from the hardware store. I don't think there's a better lighting deal for $13.

In my store they always make you do a return and you have to rebuy. They are good with returns, but I haven't returned anything in ages to know if they changed the policy. I want to buy enought to do my whole barn.

A while back I saw the price on the 60" flat panel I'd purchased a month earlier had dropped by $100. Went in with my receipt and they handed me cash for the difference, including tax. Would have been a huge PITA to bring that thing back to the store! Costco will do that anytime within 90 days of any purchase.

Personally Im going to wait till all that stuff comes way down as we know it will. Since I am in a generally dark dreary climate when I want light I want LIGHT right there. Those 500 watt halogen are the ticket for making things bright enough as long as you are willing to deal with the cords. They also help warm things up in the nasty cold. If it was something i did all day long every day it would be different but not with the in and out work I tend to do. The pay back on that stuff for part time use is just too steep compared to the cost savings and we all know that no bulb lasts nearly it's rated life due to such things as temperature fluctuations and switching on and off.
Actually the best way to light up an entire garage is a nice simple 175 watt mercury vapor light mounted upside down. Cheap and effective though a bit slow to warm up so it's on a separate switch for from the garage door light's which kick on anyways.

took my receipts for the LED shop lights I bought in Dec for $40, to see if I could get a refund because they are now $32 (with instant coupon). They said they will only refund difference for coupon items within 2 weeks of purchase, but she did tell me to just buy them at the coupon price and return them. So I did that for 4 of them, bought them, brought them right back in for a refund on my old receipts. I still have receipt for 2 more bought at the higher price. i hope they still have them at $32 later in the month when I get my rebate check, I'll probably use it to buy a bunch of them.

I changed everything around teh property to 60 watt LED area lights. They put out the same light as the 500W halogen, but are at only 60 watts. I love them
do you have a link for these lights? I am not sure what you mean.
Thanks

Possibly similar to the LED public street lights I've seen installed in a few parts of Ontario.

4Shorts installed one at the home generator housing that he "threw" together ;) at his place. That video might be on here, and should still be on his Youtube channel. As he states, they are more designed for a higher installation than what he did (will light up a much larger area), but he had an overhead concern that he wanted to stay well clear of (lines I think).

Nothing comes up at my Costco... maybe it's regional?

Nothing here either. I got their magazine and they mention the lights but nowhere is there a sale. Putting the item number in their website is just as fruitless.

I've found this before when a friend living on the East Coast told me about something at Costco and it was not available on the West Coast...
