Just got off the phone and ordered a new welding machine. Have lots of projects around the new house and sold it to the bride by educating her on the benefits of it being a generator also! Should be here end of the week but I won't be able to get it until Monday I believe.

I haven't stick welded in 10 years so there's going to be a learning curve! Pretty familiar with a 252 so lots of practice is going to be needed. Hopefully I can get some hints and tricks from the pros like shield arc and others.

Machine is a Bobcat 250 EFI. I bought the cover, new elite welding hood, new gloves, 50' of leads and 7018/6011 rods. First mods will probably be to add quick connects for the leads though. Looked seriously at the ranger and 302g but kept coming back to blue.

Pics when it comes in. Will be using the 5055 to unload all the goodies!

Congrats on the new Miller. I have the older Miller Bobcat 250NT I bought several years ago. My main purpose is for a backup generator since at 10KW rated it will run the whole house. Plus I had the added benefit to use as a welder which has seen quite a bit of use. I haven't checked lately but think I've got about 100 hours or so on it.
Last fall I picked up another 220V AC/DC welder so the Bobcat is now just for backup power or for welding jobs where I have no access to power. I still start the Miller up once a month and run it up to temp so it stays ready to go. I also change the oil and filter once a year and use stabil in the gas.
I use mostly 1/8" and 3/16" rod. 6010, 6013, 7014, 7018, and 316L for stainless.

I'd say so! Already came up with another project to work on with it!

Always good to hear good stories and great experiences! I got 1/8 7018 and 3/32 6011 I think. Hopefully that can get me going enough to figure what works best for my situation and go from there.

not like a newbie.

I didn't stickweld in 30 years and it all came back in 5 minutes ( this judgement is memory-dependent ). I only used 1/8" rod, didn't try anything funny just welded up some stuff for a friend. I thought I'd at least forgotten how to feed the rod in but no problem, it was like riding a bicycle.

That's kind of a wicked machine for welding around the house.

That's good to hear! The truck is coming tomorrow so I will soon find out! I have a bunch of fence to build and always have projects. Rather it hurt once instead of get something I can't build off of. Already looking for a suitcase welder too. The fact it's a decent sized generator was Icing on the cake.
