Hey Pappy. If I waited 'till July the clay MIGHT dry out by then... It rains a bit here. Once we got the stump laying on its side, out of the hole, the hoe made quick work of the mud ball. Must have been half a ton stuck on there.
When we dug our new well, the excavator left huge "loaves" of clay in a heap. Six rainy months later, the clay still held the perfect shape of the bucket. Pretty sticky stuff! Makes a fine road bed though, once it dries out.
I like your home made shovel James. It seems that once you buy a tractor... Your next purchase should be a decent welder. I'm looking for a used one now.

I could not agree more. Here is my little Everlast PA160 DC stick welder. I use it for stick welding, and I added a TIG torch, and a cheap regulator off of Ebay and got a bottle of argon locally, and I was all set to learn scratch start TIG. I have made a lot of things with this little welder, and it has been worth every penny. I only paid $269 for the welder.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but hope someone can fill the history for me.
Started looking at grapples 6or 7 years ago. Was going to get a Millonzi, but about the time I was ready they went out of business. Found a place called Markham Welding that was doing skid steer attachments and decided to enter the smaller grapple market. Bought one from them. About a year later they were having some financial issues they got bought by somebody named Gator attachments. ( I think).. Now I do a search for Gator and find nothing. Anybody know what happened to them?

Another thing I have done is use my bucket shovel to scrape the dirt and rocks off of the rootball. I don't have a backhoe, but the bucket chain on "shovel" I made works pretty well to get a lot of this stuff off. It sure beats using a digging bar and a ordinary shovel to do it.

I've done the same thing with a very large heavy stump I was able to dig free but could not lift out of the hole. I put on the forks and dug away some of the attached soil and was then able to lift it out of the hole.

I think Gator changed ownership and name. If you Google grapples and Denton NC you will find a number of companies producing grapples. Whoever was doing the actual production of Markham and Gator grapples is somewhere in that mix.

I figured you'd be the one to reply IT. I have a memory like a sieve so I couldn't even tell you where my grapple came from. Other then Markham Welding.
Moved up to a bigger tractor, but don't think I'll have to worry to much about hurting the grappled though. I'm usually pretty ginger with stuff. Not because I don't want to hurt the equipment, but because I don't want to hurt myself.

I know that Wildkat Attachments is in Denton, N.C. That's where I bought my stump grapple.
