So I'm considering trading in my 4035 PST for a hydrostatic cab model. I like the 4035 performance but I regret not purchasing a hydro with factory cab in the first place. The 4035 is a 2011 model with 250 hours. Most of the hours come from snow removal and unloading freight with the loader. Besides the convenience of hydrostatic for doing this type of work, I'm a little worried about premature wear the clutch and components from frequent forward/reverse shifting. I am worried about this for no reason? Im thinking it would better to trade while the tractor is still in good shape than to wait until it has more hours and wear. Besides that, I sure dolong for a factory cab. I have a partially home built jobber that is a good windbreak, but visibility is poor and I would need to put a lot more work into it to get it finished properly (which I dont have time for). I guess I'm mostly looking for input on whether frequent clutching is a potential problem with the PST.

Not at all. It's poor technique that ruins clutches. ( slipping or popping a clutch) A clutch should last and last otherwise. (Last clutched tractor going on 30 years and still grabbing tightly) You'll have to come up with other motivations to change tractors of which wanting hydro for it's ease of use or a cab for weather protection certainly apply. Besides, I thought with power shuttle, once you've clutched to gear select, you didn't have to use the clutch for directional changes.

Ditto on the PST/clutch. But, if you are thinking about it... might as well do your homework, check out a few different tractors, and trade it in. Life is short... :)

You didn't mention if you have an aftermarket cab on your 4035 so I assume not. Most of my hours are for snow plowing too so I upgraded last year to a factory cab model. That heated cab sure is a blessing for snow removal. No longer need to wear heavy clothes or gloves in a warm cab. I also think HST is the best way to go for snow plowing and loader work. As mentioned premature clutch wear is usually due to poor technique / operation.
If you decide to get a factory cab model I think you would do better selling your 4035 outright than trading in. Try an ad on CL first before trading in. I sold my previous tractor in a week during snow season last year.

OK so I probably don't have to worry about the shuttle. I actually did mean the shuttle, not the clutch. Although I do find myself occasionally slipping the clutch in tight spaces or tricky maneuvers, especially when using the forks, I know it's not good but sometimes using the shuttle to move a few inches with a heavy load on the front is too jerky, and that is the primary reason I am interested in HST. I regularly lift 1-2000lb pallets to full height, and that's one of things I love with Mahindra is the high lifting capacity. Looked at a Kubota Grand L model 4760HSTC, but the lift capacity is a full 1000 lbs below the 5010. I couldn't believe it. Same with with Massey and C/NH. Dropping down to the L4060 which is comparable to my 4030 or the Kioti NX4510, the Kubota max lift capacity is only 1720lbs. Wow. More bells and whistles, but I'd have to get a bigger tractor and a lot more $$ to get the job done. Anyways, I kinda like the Kioti NX4510, pretty good specs. It would probably come down to what the Mahindra dealer would give for trade-in vs the Kioti dealer (if I decide to go the trade-in route). I really don't need additional HP, the 4035 at 40hp does pretty much anything I need, and I never use the PTO, it does see occasional light garden/field work. Only thing is I don't think the NX series comes with rear remotes, I would need at least one plus a 3rd function for the snowplow hydraulics would be nice. On my 4035, I have the plow hooked to the rear remote.

As long as you're not getting the friction pucks too hot, slipping isn't that hard on things. It's a dynamic friction interface - they're meant to buffer power transfer to a certain extent, just like brake pads/discs. When you ride your brakes bad things happen too. ;)

I like HST and would never buy anything without it but I'm drooling over the newer style HST. Kubota's HST+ seems to be the best but the NX series from Kioti now has a watered down version where the forward and reverse pedals can control engine RPM. I believe they also have stall control. Unless you're doing PTO work like snowblowing, there's no need to have the engine screaming away at a constant RPM. The more you push on the HST pedal, the more RPM you get, otherwise, you can work in relatively peaceful cab, listening to music that you don't have to blare to hear over the engine. Not sure if Mahindra has this type of HST, but it would be a big consideration in my decision.

I've had an aftermarket cab, a factory built aftermarket cab and now a factory cab. There's no comparison. Even though you use your tractor primarily for snow removal, A/C is a must. Keeps you cool in the summer obviously, but keeps the windows fog free in the winter as well. They're also MUCH quieter.

I've lost exactly no sleep over trading to a tractor with factory cab. Life's short...

I bought a Curtis cab that was made for a different brand/model tractor, and with some modifications got it to temporarily mount on my Mahindra. It's a soft side with glass windshield, and provides a good wind break. But to do a nice permanent mount, I would have to completely redesign it, and I just don't have the time or skill to do so, plus it would be a significant investment with glass and other materials. I'm going to start calling around and see what kind of deals the dealers are willing to make. Definitely leaning towards a Kioti NX at this point, I'm not too excited about Mahindra's 5010 not being Mahindra made. I really like the 4035, I wish they made a factory cab for the 35 series.

So anyone want to venture some guesses as to what a dealer might give for a trade in on a 2011 Mahindra 4035 PST with 250 hours, loaded rear tires

Rocky, a dealer first considers what he can retail the unit for. A customer wants to save 25% or more or he will buy new, especially if he wants to finance and/or is risk intolerant and wants a new warranty. When a dealer sells a used tractor, he often does some service and then hauls it for "free" and he also wants to make some profit. Let's take your tractor out of the equation and make up a sample. A tractor that sells new for $15k and is 4 years old with a couple hundred hours might retail for 75%, $11,250. The dealer has $750 in hauling, service and prep. Then he wants to make 10%. Do the math and that tractor might be traded in at around $9-9.5k. If you retail it yourself you will do better, but many folks really dislike having strangers come to their house, etc.

You might look at the new 2555HST Cab. It has a tighter turning radius than the 4035 and lifts about 3000lbs. Make sure you fill the rears with RimGuard and keep some ballast on the back. The short wheelbase and strong loader causes back wheelies if you don't.

HST is much more practical doing precise loading work. Better yet, but a cheap forklift for unloading...but that does not give you a cab tractor for winters.
