50 hour maintenance complete not what I expected...

My engine oil was pretty black, and the hydro fluid was dark also with some "scabs" of what was probably oil soaked paint chips. Or at least no where near as clear yellow as the Mobilfluid 424 that went back in it. I was glad I changed out everything at 50 hours.

Well my dads kubota will be doing the 50 hours soon. Seems odd alot of kubotas have perfect oil and hydro. Will update when he does his. He is at 42 hours. If his is clean I will not know how to feel.

Everything sounds pretty normal to me.
Everything is just breaking in. That is why they call for the 50 hours oil change- to get that stuff out.
As far as the engine oil. I work around dozens of diesel engines. The oil is always black. Even soon after an oil change.
Again normal.

NO Diesel engine has clear engine oil after even a few hours running. Diesels produce soot. Diesels have blow-by. Soot gets in the oil. A major function of Diesel oil is to capture and suspend this soot. This is one of the reasons gasoline oil isn't suitable in Diesels. Enough of the "old" oil stays in the engine that the new oil will be black in a few minutes running.

Black oil is absolutely normal for a Diesel engine.

My engine oil was black at 50 hrs on my tractor, and I've noticed on my JD 997 31HP D mower, that oil will get dark real quick, as a matter of fact, after an engine run to re-check the oil level after an oil change, the oil is already getting black...I think it depends on the engine. some might run hot...I would not worry.

My dad's fluids in his Kubota were the same as I had. These guys saying theirs was perfect must have some magic in their engines. I had doubts but not anymore.
