IMO a cord is 4x4x8 EVERYWHERE. Upstate NY my BIL says they sell "face cords" which I think is 4x4x18".

Because of back problems I can't split all the wood I need, so I bought 3 cords from my buddy in the business ($600). Here is pictures of the truck and the pile of wood with my tractor for scale. He said he gave me closer to 4 cords. All oak, hickory, other hardwoods.

I made a corral out of pallets and moved it all off the driveway with the FEL.

I think that a face cord varies by region. I think in some cases a a face cord is 1 row of wood stacked 4x8 and what ever length you cut it, it can be 6'' or 24.'' I read that the term face cord was started as a way to scam people on selling firewood. The seller would tell the person they were getting a face cord and the person would think it was a whole cord. I've never heard anybody use ''face cord" where I live. Wood has to be sold in VA buy the cord or fractions of a cord.

I cut this beech today. That's a 36" bar on the saw.

This wagon will hold a little more than 2 cords. It is 16' long & the stack is about 40"high. The blocks are 23" long.

A cord is 4'x4'x8' long, a "face" cord is 1/3 of a cord. SO, 4' tall, 8' long of 16" splits...

You can change it up any way you want, but those two are the most accepted measurements of firewood...

Yep the face of a cord. 4ft by 8ft and 1 row deep. That's how I have always known it.

Beech is my favorite firewood. A tree that big is a real score! I cut one about that big when I first purchased our new property back in 2011. It had come down in a storm, fell over by the rootball. Long and very straight. Got a lot of good wood out of that, the last of which we're burning this winter.

That's Somebeech!

In Michigan there is no such thing as a face cord (legally), but if there where it would be 16" x 4' x 8' (1/3 of a full or federal or just plain cord cord)

I have several trees that have died since the 2009 ice storm. It seems like more have died the last 2 years than the summer after the storm.

There's probably 15-20 beech that have died. Most of them are 24-30" but I have a couple that are close to 48" at the stump.

The beech start to rot pretty quickly once they are dead. Especially the tops of them so you really have watch for falling limbs when you cut them.

i'll give you that green but not seasoned. normally i fit 2/3 of a cord in a full size pickup bed. the dump truck can only haul 2 cords of green wood, 2.5-3 if it's seasoned
yep a cord of maple is close to 6000 lbs. I have a one ton dolley and if I have side boards I can stack a cord in it but it is very high and very heavy. Just throwing wood in you get about .65 sq feet before it starts overflowing the box and falling out. That is just over a 1/2 cord.
