Just my two cents here but if someone offered a new tractor to me as a replacement, I'd take it.

That's interesting and if this issue came up several years from now I might have try that. But right now my warranty should provide for someone else to do the exploratory surgery.

What I don't like is that nobody, including the salesman, technicians and service manager, has suggested the problem is unique to my tractor. It seems to be widely accepted that the brakes are not expected to work. At this point, I've mastered the "double-pump" to get brakes. But it's only a matter of time before I whack the side of my dump truck or smash into the back wall of my equipment shed... It's not right.

I think my dealer would take the tractor back or even replace it if I insisted. But that's not what I'm looking for at this point. I really would like to see this thing fixed. That's why I'm hanging in there. My update is that apparently a regional rep from Deere is going to be called in on this caper...

Who's your dealer? I can't call my salesman next week to see if they have figured out what the root problem was. I'd be more than happy to call them and explain you are not alone.

Don't think the salesman is the one to know... much. The mechanics under the service manager are the ones that should know, and/or can find out. Just my thought...

Thanks Brett.

Later on today Im going to go back and read from the beginning of this thread to refresh my memory about the issues you had and how they were resolved. The dealer is going to call tomorrow. I'll tell him there might be an opportunity to learn from your experience and that you're willing to share what you know.

Thanks very much!

I realize that the rear transaxle is different on the M models compared to the E's. But... my brakes don't go to the floor. Deere has to work out a different braking system than that!

In a "panic" situation, there's not always enough time to be double pumping the brakes! That's a "perfect storm" for a team of lawsuit sharks - IMO.

Regarding the power reverser transmission shifting - there is an optional "shifting modulator" that allows you to adjust the aggressiveness or speed of the transmission shifting. It's a little knob on the dash that you turn clockwise/counter clockwise. It was a $100 option for the 2011 year tractors.

The only time I touch the clutch is for those "fine" inch or two motions. And, I tend to shift into N and let the tractor slow down to a near stop before shifting to either F or R. Especially if I've got a scoop full of manure!

Wet clutch or wet brakes.. They will all wear out. Riding either one just speeds up the wearing out process quicker!

553 is no longer in production. It's available limited to stock on hand - so if you can find one you can buy it.

H240 has a bit longer arms and lifts higher than the 553.

I have no issues with my brakes, never thought about them possibly not working until this thread. My 5065E was built in July 2014.

I also messed with my power reverser this weekend and when in MFWD and throwing it from R/F or vice versa without stopping it does "shift" pretty good but not what I would not call it violent.

Ryan,

What happens when you have the hand throttle set up say 1200 RPMs are you change direction with the Power Reverser?

Today mine seems to be consistently smooth from reverse to forward, at any RPMs and without braking (which is a crap shoot anyway), slowing down or stopping, but not at all from forward to reverse. Example: I'm stopped idling in neutral, disengage the clutch, change gears, shift to reverse, then let the clutch out, the tractor slams into motion. As you could imagine, it's even much worse above an idle.

Do you have to use the clutch to start out when using a power shuttle on a John Deere? Sounds like a standard shuttle not a power shuttle.

Also why would you have the hand throttle set to 1200?
