That's interesting and if this issue came up several years from now I might have try that. But right now my warranty should provide for someone else to do the exploratory surgery.
What I don't like is that nobody, including the salesman, technicians and service manager, has suggested the problem is unique to my tractor. It seems to be widely accepted that the brakes are not expected to work. At this point, I've mastered the "double-pump" to get brakes. But it's only a matter of time before I whack the side of my dump truck or smash into the back wall of my equipment shed... It's not right.
I think my dealer would take the tractor back or even replace it if I insisted. But that's not what I'm looking for at this point. I really would like to see this thing fixed. That's why I'm hanging in there. My update is that apparently a regional rep from Deere is going to be called in on this caper...
Who's your dealer? I can't call my salesman next week to see if they have figured out what the root problem was. I'd be more than happy to call them and explain you are not alone.

I have no issues with my brakes, never thought about them possibly not working until this thread. My 5065E was built in July 2014.
I also messed with my power reverser this weekend and when in MFWD and throwing it from R/F or vice versa without stopping it does "shift" pretty good but I would not call it violent.
Ryan,
What happens when you have the hand throttle set up say 1200 RPMs are you change direction with the Power Reverser?
Today mine seems to be consistently smooth from reverse to forward, at any RPMs and without braking (which is a crap shoot anyway), slowing down or stopping, but not at all from forward to reverse. Example: I'm stopped idling in neutral, disengage the clutch, change gears, shift to reverse, then let the clutch out, the tractor slams into motion. As you could imagine, it's even much worse above an idle.
