I also had recently been truck shopping for my son. I noticed KBB is lower and NADA is higher on the exact same vehicle. Sometimes a few thousand dollars difference. They really are just a guide. I also took into account local Craigslist prices. Between the three of them you get a pretty good idea of what you should be paying.

IIRC, some use actual dealer sale price and others use dealer asking prices?
I usually pay closer to CL prices than book prices...

Got a 2006 Ram 1 ton last fall with 67000 miles and I can vouch for the accuracy of that.

We don't get many super clean used trucks like that around here, unless they are lease returns. They slap high prices in worn out beat up junk in my town but if you tried to trade in your 2014 truck they'd nitpick it to death like it was the biggest pile on the road.lol

Doesn't much matter what it sold for new, it's more about what new trucks cost today. Dollars are worth lots less today than in 2005.

First of all Gale, ye family has its priorities straight! Ye kids want trucks!! Yes! That Dakota looks great, same as mine, except mine is a '93 with that era's 3.6 V6. One tough engine! Actually, my Dakota has the the best vehicle of ANY kind I've ever owned. Body, frame, engine, transmission, I mean stout and solid. It was originally bought in Dayton, OH, but treated with that Ziebart stuff, and still nary rust! Doors close tight, looks great when clean, and been used as a truck, pulling my 25' travel trailer all over the country, hauling wood, you name it. Dodge made a good one!

I hope you get same kind of service. Oh, and I did have one problem - odometer broke about 11 years ago at 120,640 miles, so I change oil/filter by time. And have only used synthetic oil. Love me truck!

Everyone that buys used cars talk about the good deals they get. When I look at late model used vehicles, I can buy new for less, they are way overpriced.

I agree with this for a person not on a budget. $8500 we could pull off but $30K would not have flown. Annual taxes and insurance would have been much higher for years to come. Any vehicle would set out in the open driveway and annual depreciation might be >$1000 a year on a $30K vehicle too.

The true cost to buy new would be hard for a 17 year old to swing with their typical earning power. This deal is more about life training. She picked it out herself before I even saw it and states she expects it to last for 6 years so she will be out of college before buying again. She set up the B&D charger tonight and it took about 10 minutes to top off then she started the Desulf mode herself.

Having my kids where they can fend for themselves OK takes a load off of my mind should I take my final flight without warning.
