Good as any other. I wouldn't go out of my way or pay more for it.

That is what I was thinking. I was talking with a Schaeffer sales rep and he was telling how great it was and that even though it cost more per quart it would actually save money due to it lasting longer, reduced fuel consumption, etc.

Same thing any Synthetic does. I hear that sales pitch a few times a year from all the players.

I use Schaeffer for all my commercial heavy truck needs and my personal stuff. I buy enough at a time that I get free shipping to my front door and they give me free oil sample kits and analysis with it. Not snake oil. They have been making lubes and oils longer than anyone else in N. America, since 1839.

Whether it is worth it or not, they cater primarily to commercial operations, heavy ag users, etc. They have some very solid products, but for the average user, unless you can get it at a good price locally, you can do as well using another product that is more cost effective. The most cost effective way is to know a commercial user and have them include what you want on their order so that you get the wholesale pricing and free shipping.

The Schaeffer rep, while correct, is really using the same marketing stuff that Amsoil does when he says it will last longer and therefore cost less in the long run. There is some truth to that, but most folks do not use any oil to its full potential anyway, so I am not sure it would prove to be "cost effective". For those of us that go thru drums of the stuff each year, yeah, extending drains and better economy can really show up in the spreadsheets.

I use Schaeffer's in my over the road truck ,race car, farm tractor, and all of my kids cars (total 15) do all my own maintance on everything because I can and don't trust the other guy's including the dealer stealers I only use them for warrantee work I bye oil by the bucket and barrel depending on the application and also get free shipping plus I only live about 25 miles away from the plant. The one thing that stands out for me is that there products are specialized lube's meaning if you need something out of the ordinary they will blend it for you to whatever spec's you may or purpose my over the road truck has over 1million miles and so far never an in frame done to this day. So yes they make good products and like what they say you get what you pay for, that said it may not be for everyone and for those reasons there are a lot of other oils out there. The final word is choice and like a wise old owl once told me years ago whatever you do in life you do by choice.
