1F. Cloudy until about 4pm and the temp hovered around 9F most of the day.

The weekend storm is shaping up to be a nasty one due to high winds and low temps. We are just north and west of the blizzard watch area. Looks like the coast from Boston north is going to hit again pretty good.

MG, I wish you were close enough to get some wood here. I have more trees I would like to thin than I can possibly use but not enough in the right size class and species to bring in a firewood harvester. I remember from living in NW Ohio how it can be hard to scrounge firewood sometimes. Even here the firewood dealers are always looking for woodlots to cut.

fairly nice day here today that turned a bit ugly a few hours ago, with rain, and maybe, just maybe, a dusting of snow. The snow line is only twenty miles away by radar.
Eric, sorry about your ewe. Too bad the predators can't find other food, though I love lamb so why
wouldn't they....well, medium well in my case.

I am so relieved you guys are talking about moonbeams. So it's just not me early in the am...

Suddenlink rep just left and my phone/tv/internet just went down a hundred bucks a month.
And no loss in internet speed since my current provider has dumbed down their fiber optic system to a whopping 42/2.9 I'll go faster on copper "cable" wire.

I slept late this morning for no reason at all. Felt good all day. Painters were here finishing up the very last bit of interior work, including staining a stainable fiberglass double door just installed. And it stained pretty well, though the fake graining is noticeable.
One of my daffodils is really trying to pop its head up and bloom. About to get frozen in the next week ahead for sure.

Eric sorry to hear about your sheep. Foxes and coyotes do a number on pets around here.

Hadn't thought before just how lucky I am - we always have occasional dead sheep and always will, but at least there are no coyotes in England (only Kioti).
Most foxes are no trouble to healthy mature sheep.
They will take lambs if they get a chance, but they mostly dine on rabbits,voles and ground nesting birds.
Last year I saw a fox stalking a group of swans. I thought they would be too big and powerful for the fox. I was wrong. Within a week all that was left of 2 of them was a pile of feathers and well picked bones.

26 degrees this morning, only going up to 36. Some of that frigid air has surely dropped down here for the next few days.

off to get a haircut, then some food shopping and a quiet weekend. Hope to get back into the woods.
This time I'm taking my larger chainsaw and frankly have to straighten out many too tight wiggles in my path and make them straighter. First time through just cut enough to get the UTV through; just making sure I get there first before I build the Appian Way.

Eric, you are such a tease! You tell us about a new tractor and no clues! Better be some proud pics today. New or new to you, always an exciting time.

curious, do you have any "kiss gates" on your property?

Nearly blew away yesterday working on my brush pile and had a nice period of snow, but none stuck....could be more tomorrow and Tuesday.

12 out this AM Single digits at night for the next few, When the wind kicks in, below zero.

Counted 482 logs I need to split by the weekend. I also need to find room in the shed, which is still 1/2 full. Should be fun on the back for the next week or so. LOL.

A little chilly here on the house ... 59F ...

Found a real nice bed of coals and some charcoal in the stove when I got up @ 05:00 ... only problem is, the fuel I have at the moment to load it is "less than ideal" (an understatement of ever there was one)

Turns out, out of the two aspens logs I brought over to the house the other day, the larger one of the two appears to be one I cut down earlier (a couple months ago in the fall) ... so it's unseasoned ... and burns about like wet cardboard.

I managed to stoke up the fire and feed it the last piece of shagbark hickory and a small amount of ash we had left ... and then put the (green) aspen on top of that. It's burning pretty hot ... at least for now ... dunno how long that will last though.

Upside is that it is supposed to be sunny today ... and we get great passive solar heat gain :thumbsup:

Really need to get the tractor fixed today so I can haul down some of the seasoned wood that's sitting up next to the shop. My little helper - who was supposed to bring over a load of wood yesterday - ended up being a no show/no call/no text ...

Also have to return a couple of empty gas cylinders today and go pick up a little steel to complete the log lift and table grate for the splitter. Surplus Center shipped my order for the valve for the log lift ... that isn't supposed to get here until Monday ... assuming the UPS idiot actually manages to deliver it.
