Good morning!!!!

First coffee, And then headed up to the cottage where it is -30 Fahrenheit with the windchill right now. A little bit of snow is coming as well, so it should be lots of fun up there! Will probably warm up to a balmy -25 or so by the time I get there.😜

Well I don't post very much but I do keep up on a regular basis. I just to had to post this morning as the temperature is -8F here and it is not looking good for the rest of the weekend. The polar wind is going to blow and there is some snow coming our way, another 1-4". I know it's not as bad as some of the weather out there and not as good as other. Be well all. Last workday before our long weekend, Family Day on Monday. Maybe spring will break out, in the next week or so.

Things sure have changed over the last few months:
27F and clear @ 06:00 ... the temp has risen about 10 degrees in the last 3 or 4 hours. High today is supposed to be 44F with some freezing rain/rain ... will be an easy day as far as heating goes.

Been burning some black locust logs up @ the shop that had been sitting out at the perimeter of the backyard for the last ten or fifteen years ... well seasoned you could say. Burns great ... nice and hot ... only problem is it's so @#$! hard - when I went to cut it to stove lengths there were sparks flying off the chain on the saw ... lol ...

Since it's not supposed to go below freezing for the next couple of days, and since it's also supposed to rain on and off, I'm going to move the ballast block out of the shed (if I can) and let Mother Nature keep the 'crete wet. Will probably move it back in Monday night since the temps on Tuesday are supposed to drop again.

Tomorrow will probably be wood cutting day ... let the snow melt today and then have at it tomorrow when it's a little warmer and (hopefully) not raining.

Furnace is still on the fritz ... the HVAC guy thinks it's probably the gas valve ... supposed to call later today with a price and availability ...

Been doing clean up and organizing in the shop ... and a little bit of wood chipper maintenance and modifications - thread about the latter at the link below:

YAJCMT: Yet Another Jinma Chipper Modification Thread

I guess your modifying the chipper is sort of like the old drain the swamp:

-0.2F @ 06:15 ...

A little chilly here on the house ... 59F ...

Found a real nice bed of coals and some charcoal in the stove when I got up @ 05:00 ... only problem is, the fuel I have at the moment to load it is "less than ideal" (an understatement of ever there was one)

Turns out, out of the two aspens logs I brought over to the house the other day, the larger one of the two appears to be one I cut down earlier (a couple months ago in the fall) ... so it's unseasoned ... and burns about like wet cardboard.

I managed to stoke up the fire and feed it the last piece of shagbark hickory and a small amount of ash we had left ... and then put the (green) aspen on top of that. It's burning pretty hot ... at least for now ... dunno how long that will last though.

Upside is that it is supposed to be sunny today ... and we get great passive solar heat gain

Really need to get the tractor fixed today so I can haul down some of the seasoned wood that's sitting up next to the shop. My little helper - who was supposed to bring over a load of wood yesterday - ended up being a no show/no call/no text ...

Kids ...

Also have to return a couple of empty gas cylinders today and go pick up a little steel to complete the log lift and table grate for the splitter. Surplus Center shipped my order for the valve for the log lift ... that isn't supposed to get here until Monday ... assuming the UPS idiot actually manages to deliver it.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.

Stay warm ... especially youz guys up there in N.E. ...

It seems that there is ALWAYS something else popping up to get in your way.

Good luck rs.

-4F headed to 7F today, should be sunny. NWS is now saying 10"-14" Sat-Sun.

With a six hour time difference, Eric's new tractor should be home by now. We need pics and details!

A fair wind blowing, set to bring rain for most of the day.

Hadn't thought before just how lucky I am - we always have occasional dead sheep and always will, but at least there are no coyotes in England (only Kioti).
Most foxes are no trouble to healthy mature sheep.
They will take lambs if they get a chance, but they mostly dine on rabbits, voles and ground nesting birds.
Last year I saw a fox stalking a group of swans. I thought they would be too big and powerful for the fox. I was wrong. Within a week all that was left of 2 of them was a pile of feathers and well picked bones.

Have a nice day all.
For me it feels better than Christmas as a 10 year old kid - new tractor expected to arrive later this morning. :dance1:

Yes, we like pic's!!!
Happy Tractor day!

Good Morning! 43Ëš in Texas and the cold front has given us all the cold it has. The Gulf breeze will win today pushing the cold back up North and leaving us in the 60s.

Some days I'm very productive other days I just get interference. When I was unloading the truck yesterday one tire was flat and had some kind of metal sticking out of it. Non-repairable. I finally got my money back from buying the Discount Tire's $25(ea.) replaceable insurance. The new tire would have been $200+ installed - but it took 4 hours out of the day- they were very crowded.

Eric, we are standing by to receive your pics download.

Drew, you set a high standard for your trail: To this day the Via Appia contains the longest stretch of straight road in Europe, totaling 62 km (39 mi).

You realize Spartacus and 6,000 other slaves met their gruesome end on the Appian Way? You are tempting fate. On a vacation trip to Rome we walked the Via Appia from the Baths of Caracalla to a catacomb full of skulls and bones. That's a bit creepy. Rome is worth a visit if you like history.

Lots of history in Rome but I found it too comercialized. Took lots of pictures of fantastic looking building but tried taking the pics showing from the 2nd floor up as the old buildings did not look a beautiful if you showed the Gucci store on the 1st floor.
