Why do people always stock up on bread and milk before a snowstorm?

PBJ , ham and cheese, BLT, etc, whatever.

Man can not live by bread alone, but he can try.

Toilet paper, of course...we don't save our corn cobs any more...but can't live without a case of Budweiser and a couple cans of Wolf Brand Chili! And the milk is to make Snow Ice Cream!

Probably just a habit left over from different times like changing the oil in your car every 3000 miles.

A run on the liquor and beer store makes sense. Bread and milk must be just ingrained memory from our grandparents when it could take a week for a store to restock after a storm. Sandwiches are the easiest things to make without power.

It's the weather reporters. They send out subliminal messages in the weather report.
They also own grocery stores.

Never stock up on bread, other than one or two loaves in the freezer if it's on sale. Just the usual buying fresh every week. If a storm comes in toward the end of that week, well, just buying as usual, not stocking.

Ditto for the milk, since I don't have any cows, goats, or hamsters.

Besides, you know how hard it is to milk a hamster? Not to mention how many you need to milk just for the cream in your coffee?

When I worked at a grocery store as a younger man I was a stocker/sacker/cashier. It seemed like the busiest days where the worst weather days especially right at the beginning of the storm. Nothing beats taking a cart of groceries out to someone's car in the middle of a rainstorm!
