Blizzard 2015 Boston

Yep, that's what they were doing.

I was thinking that a blizzard of snowplows would be appropriate but conga line captures it perfectly.

First time I had seen that Conga line was probably 20 years ago on my way into Toronto after a huge snowstorm that stranded me and the ex wife in Buffalo overnight. The following day I drove all the way straight back to Massachusetts on I-90 4 wd hi range the whole time (I had a Ford Bronco II back then).

I never saw so many vehicles especially large trucks skidded off the highway in my entire life.

There was a 20 car pile up on 95S this afternoon just as we were driving to our postponed hockey game. No serious injuries except to cars. Shut the road down for at least a couple of hours. We had to detour.

The sky was clear and sunny and the road was black and mostly even dry but periodically wind gusts would pick up new snow and create white outs. Apparently a tractor trailer jackknifed and other cars just kept plowing in.

4 hours of clearing today. Will do roofs tomorrow. Wind is REALLY moving, we are sheltered from the north and it's still shaking the house. Got some good seat time though :)

Boston currently -3 with wind 24mph gusting to 36.

It is referred to officially as "High Speed Plowing." Hitting a bridge joint at 50mph must be quite exciting, even in a huge Oshkosh.

I believe the area I live in is at around 120 inches so far this winter. We're about 35-40 minutes from Montague, NY, which generally gets more than 200 inches per year.
There's been no thaw this winter, so everything is pretty much still here and folks that plow are running out of places to push it. And today we're the coldest spot in the lower 48: Watertown is the coldest place in the lower 48 states today | syracuse.com
A little incident with a NYSDOT plow about 65 miles from where I live a day or two ago:

Maybe in Boston it is called High Speed Plowing, but it is called Conga Line plowing and they use to cover the whole road at once and keep the idiot flatland drivers from trying to pass them and causing a wreck. Both New Hampshire and Vermont and I believe Maine have lost several state plow trucks this winter that were hit by traffic trying to pass them on the Interstates, loosing control and wiping out the plow trucks. Also, only an Idiot would being plowing at 50mph and coming up on a bridge joint. Most highway plows go 25 to 35 mph max. Catch something going fast and you are liable to drive over the plow.

The line of plows I followed yesterday on 95/128 were moving at about 25-30mph. Cars found it irresistible to move in the newly cleared left hand lane up behind the first plow but nobody was dumb enough to try to duck inside and pass.

I was up for my daughter's hockey game early. It was -5F with windchill about -25 at 5am. Hockey game at 6:30. Balmy +5F by the time the game finished. Came home to find frozen pipes in kitchen and master bath. Kitchen not a surprise as the pipes are on a north facing outside wall (house is 130years old so not so tight). Bath pipes had never frozen before. I investigated and found that the pipes were not on any outside wall. The did however travel on an inside wall that was part of the front door vestibule (inner and outer door). Checked temp in the vestibule which has no heat source and it was 28F. Opened the door to get some heat in there. Still frozen as of this afternoon.
