] Both New Hampshire and Vermont and I believe Maine have lost several state plow trucks this winter that were hit by traffic trying to pass them on the Interstates, loosing control and wiping out the plow trucks.

There has been a ridiculous amount of driver/ Plow truck accidents reported here in Vermont this winter. There was 4 on just one day the storm before this last one

Ridiculously cold this morning (for MA), 10 below with wint wipping. Felt bad for the animals, must have been a rough night! I spent the day clearing a roof, snow was drifting to 4' in spots and with the wind every shovel full you threw off half of it blew back in your face. I think if I could get my snowblower on the roof I would seriously consider doing it, even though its a sloped roof.

Some folks just don't think, still a shame.

WMUR online RANDOLPH, N.H. 輸 hiker who went missing Sunday on Mt. Adams has been found dead.

Fish and Game Department officials said the body of Kate Matrosova, 32, of New York City, was found between Mt. Madison and Mt. Adams in an area near Star Lake.

Officials said Matrosova's husband dropped her off at 5 a.m. Sunday at the base of the mountains. She planned to hike the summit of Mt. Madison and continue through Mt. Adams, Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Washington.

Matrosova activated her personal locator beacon about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Search crews weren't able to reach the site overnight because of extreme wind and cold. Officials said the device also wasn't able to provide a precise location.

"Unfortunately, a lot of the coordinates that we received over the night are all over the place within a mile circumference," said Lt. Jim Goss of New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Crews were forced to suspend the search because of the extreme conditions.

"Well, I think the temperature last night was 30 below, and there were winds of over 100 mph on the summit," Goss said.

On Monday morning, the National Guard was able to fly over the area in a helicopter, but because of blowing snow, searchers couldn't see anything.

An advance team made up of Fish and Game officers, Mountain Rescue Services members and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue members was able to get to the area in 108 mph winds and subzero temperatures.

Officials said it appears that Matrosova died of exposure to the extreme temperatures.

"If you are going to hike in this type of weather, you need to be in a more sheltered area, not on an open, exposed ridgeline," Goss said. "There's just no room for error in a place like that."

Many people have become disconnected from reality ... they live in a world of cell phones, locator beacons, social media, text messages and selfies.

30 below and 100mph winds

Disconnected doesn't even begin to describe it!

Maybe in Boston it is called High Speed Plowing, but it is called Conga Line plowing and they use to cover the whole road at once and keep the idiot flatland drivers from trying to pass them and causing a wreck. Both New Hampshire and Vermont and I believe Maine have lost several state plow trucks this winter that were hit by traffic trying to pass them on the Interstates, loosing control and wiping out the plow trucks. Also, only an Idiot would being plowing at 50mph and coming up on a bridge joint. Most highway plows go 25 to 35 mph max. Catch something going fast and you are liable to drive over the plow.

New York calls it echelon plowing. In our area of interstate 81 there are also lighted message boards at the side of the road very clearly explaining that plows travel at 35 MPH max. Those same signs often indicate road conditions ahead.

"Saunders said Matrosova was "properly equipped for what she planned," which was a day hike traversing several of the peaks. Matrosova "had down clothing and wind guards," said Saunders, "and on a nice day she would have been fine."

He said that while Matrosova’s PLB "is a good piece of equipment and it functioned properly," the device" wasn’t consistent so we had to clear other areas" where its signal was believed to be originating."

It sounds like she had planned this hike and wasn't willing to put it off for a better day. For that matter, what was her husband thinking? Would you drop off your spouse in that situation? Maybe he was clueless about the dangers?

The White Mtns are known for treacherous, fast changing weather.

I don't know anything about the Personal Locator Beacon, why it's signal would bounce around. Maybe reflection from the hills?

I tried to talk my ex wife into that trip but she never took the bait. ;)
