Tiller Difference in tillers

Reverse tines i believe mix better, but you better be sure the soil is clean as others mentioned.

Reverse tine are also nice for older tractors that dont have a very slow ground speed and tend to run away from a forward tine tiller.

My experience is that forward rotating tines are better for mixing in organic material. So if you are going to till in composed manure or straight compost then the forward rotating tiller is the way to go.. .My tiller can be either forward or reverse with the shifting of the gearbox.... I like the forward rotation... I live in New England so we grow rocks here like potatoes.... Every year the frost pushes up a new crop of rocks....

Also, like tilling in compost, the forward rotating is better for turning under leftover plant material like corn stalks.

What's the make and model of the tiller you have? I'd be interested in having one that is forward or reverse.

My tiller is a Countyline from TSC. It's one of the ones made by Tarter and I like it very much.... It's quite heavy duty and I think it's pretty good value for the money. I till about a half acre in the garden and various plots.... If I was tilling as a business I would not use my tractor or tiller and would opt for something much larger, but all in all it works great for me.... I would not hesitate to till a much larger area with this....

Chris

I just bought a County Line 5' tiller from TSC too. I bought it because it seems to be a heavy duty unit, 6 ties per hub, and the direction can be reversed. Not on the fly, but by flipping the gear box and tine shaft.

Was it manufactured by Tarter Industries? Also is it gear drive or chain drive?
