I don't consider snow a disaster. Snow belt sates should be prepared. Same as hurricane, earthquake and flood states. We need less federal government in local issues.
I agree. Now if the LOCAL Govt agrees to provide such coverages, fine... just make sure it is funded locally as well.
If my business does NOT have any loans attached to it (most do), then it is my choice to have insurance on the business/building(s). Usually if I have a loan or mortgage attached to it, then those holding the lean against my property/business typically require I hold adequate insurance to cover any losses associated; burns down, roof caves in, etc. So, why do folks expect Govt be in the business of providing loans or insurance for such losses?
I choose to have insurance on my business. If my business burns down, my insurance covers my losses in accordance with my policy. If I have enough insurance to cover my losses is up to me, via how much my insurance premium is. However, if dozens of businesses are affected by flood, fire, snow, mud slide, etc. then many folks expect the Govt to provide coverages.... why?
I suspect many of us would all prefer to live & work on some beautiful & warm Key West island, but the living & operating costs prohibit many of us from doing it...so I live where my budget allows. However, I HATE the fact that my federal tax dollar$ support those who choose to live in locations that they cannot afford to cover their own losses.
I recall a discussion I had years ago with a friend of mine that lived in Galveston, TX. I mentioned that I didn't want to be having to go through rebuilding my new home nearly every 10 years, as he did. He pointed out that his Govt-sponsored, low-interest loan home rebuild payments were lower for his brand-new home than I has paying for my 45-year old home mortgage.....and he also pointed out, "...and I've never re-painted a wall yet. I get a new wall before it needs painting." That is simply not right.....
I am all about helping out other folks...but not beyond my means. The roads and bridges I drive on/over on a daily basis are in a sad and dangerous state of condition. These are just two issues I'd like to see our Federal tax dollar$ be spent on to repair, maintain & rebuild. Just my :2cents:,,,,,
