These pallets were placed outside and have a larger capacity but like the idea of fitting in a pickup. Will just need to make sure if I haul wood there is a machine with forks at my destination. With green wood this Terex PT60 was light on the back side
Yeah I bet it was.. :) The smaller pallet boxes at a third of a cord sound about right. A lot of us tractor owners have a machine around that can lift 2000 and a dry 1/3 cord should be less then that.
How many cord do you sell a year packed that way and do you get the boxes back?

BlackRaptor, I built something kinda like yours off a KingKutter CarryAll, just bolted 2 treated runners and built a frame up from that. It's great for retrieving deer in the woods, grabbing maple syrup, hauling stuff in tight quarters where you might not take a bucket tractor or if you don't have a bucket tractor it's handy. Chain saw scabbard like you have... Nice work bet you use it a ton, cheers

Looks good!. King cutter frame really was a great little base to build off of. Chainsaw scabbards are one of the best adds ons.

Consumer Tips to Buying Firewood - National Institute of Standards and Technology

Thanks for the links. Looks like you're right; you can't sell a "face cord" in Michigan. Rather, you must sell a fraction of a cord which may be equal to a face cord, or any other fraction of a cord. It's the specific words that are disallowed.

I was referring to this description on the DNR website in my post:

*A standard cord is 8 feet long, 4 feet wide and 4 feet high.

"Firewood, in non-packaged form, is sold by a measurement called a "cord" or "fraction of a cord." A "cord" is defined as 128 cubic feet when the wood is neatly stacked in a line or row. A standard or full "cord" would be 8 feet long, 4 feet wide and 4 feet high. You may also hear or see the terms 'ric' or 'face cord' or some other local measurement. These terms have no standard measurements, so be careful when purchasing wood from a buyer that uses these terms. Make sure that you know the dimensions of the pile of wood that is being sold. A 'ric' or 'face cord' is often a stack of wood that is 8' long, 4' high, and 16" - 24" wide, depending." Link: DNR - Fuelwood/Firewood

In any event, thanks for the heads up as we may begin selling firewood this year.

I think having a rule like posted as far as how much wood you get is a good one. How ever it is my understanding that the closest you can get to full cord in rounds would be 10" dia. eg. if it were limbs you'd be lucky to get 1/2 a cord or not much more. When I sold firewood I had it estimated I was delivering 160 cf approx. to give a good cord. One old fella didn't want it split and wouldn't pay me until he had it split and in his wood shed which held exactly 2 cords. A few days later he showed up and paid me for 2.5 cords and said he thought there was close to 3 cords of coarse splitting it expanded it considerably.

Good deal for you not having to split and you made the customer happy!

My Dad had a story about helping deliver wood to a customer that demanded that it be piled before he paid for it. The wood seller was so ticked that they piled it such "that squirrels could run through without slowing down" and then got paid for that much more cords of the wood.

The flip side of that was my fathers story of a customer that split off small pieces and drove them into the gaps in the pile with a maul to get a "Solid cord" of wood.

OI finally got to skid this log out. I was waiting til the ground froze. Im kinda proud of it,it was the first one I have had to skid. I brought it up and parked it next to some fence boards so it would get the idea where it was headed.
