Mahindra: Nothing but problems

Hi Dave:

Straddle tractor--cool. Nice to see that you're going to handle those DF orchard/vineyard tractors.

My old 1964 MF135 diesel is an ideal straddle tractor for orchard work. It's lo-pro with those 18.4-16 rears (16 dia rims) and has respectable power (45 hp engine).

The wheel track on that 135 (7 ft) is OK for work in nut and olive orchards where the tree spacing is pretty wide. Not so OK for vineyard work. The guy who bought that 135 from me a few months ago is using it in his walnut orchard in Biggs.

Take it easy.

Good to hear from you Flusher. I'm glad you continue to post even though you have gone "city" on us. Yes, those old straddle tractors are great for orchards. By their very nature they could be made low profile so simply.

I've been admiring the DF line for years, but we finally committed to it and ordered a couple of loads.

Every time I had a Mahindra question... Dave was right there with a reply.

We are not a dealer of any other brand, including TYM. Mahindra has been
great to us and for us.

It was a guy in the TYM exhibit who said it. Glad I brought it up here.

Hi Brandi

Barn is not heated. No heat strip installed, which would be useless because once the tractor is out in the cold the PsT binds up again.
They only have plug in stations out west in the prairies. And even then its a block heater, so it wouldn't do any good for the PST cable. Even if the tractor is left idling it will freeze up.

If I trade the tractor it won't be for another Mahindra. Its a Mahindra problem as far as I am concerned due to poor design. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem. So how could it be my problem, any more than bad ignition problems with GMC?

The cable is one piece as far as I can tell, and yes its likely water in the cable, and I understand how it gets in there, either through washing, or using the tractor in rain. Water can easily get into the shroud around the steering wheel/column. Another gentleman on this forum suggested anti seize lubricant, but I am not certain there is any room to get it into the cable.

Still waiting for the dealer to come and pick it up. :(

Best,

Best,

Have you given any thought to lubing the cable. The first web site is an individual actually lubricating a cable with "Cable Lube", the second is of tools available to lube cables with. Frozen or sticky cables used to be a big problem on the fifties and sixties VW's.
