We pick up the anvils next week, yeah, bud found my weak spot and I went in with him on them. I have a great Jim Linzy farrier's anvil that is great but I've wanted a good shop anvil forever.

This was a collection and the anvils are all fair to prime and name brands, no $2.00 pound ones in the bunch. We'll pick them up and then catalog and price them so stay tuned.

There's a good market for them and $2.00 a pound is reasonable for a good one - or you can buy one from harbor freight.

I believe the things they sell at HF are more appropriately called "Anvil like objects".

I was at a blacksmith hammer in last weekend in Bryan Texas. A beat up pos 80 pounder went for $350.00. A nice, not prime, nice 100 lb Hay-Budden changed hands for five crisp new one hundred dollar bills. Keep in mind these are real buyers and sellers who know what they want and need and are willing to pay for it. Sometimes real life wisdom is a little different from the stuff you find on the internet.

We are feeling much better about taking a chance and laying out the thousands of dollars for this collection, $2.00 per pound would cost us thousands, literally. We hope to get top dollar but that is still reasonable when the other options for those shopping for anvils is junk either junk or a really expensive new one.

Totally understand. Wondering what metal the best anvils are made with? I see that some are repaired. Wonder what you weld them and how to repair? I've seen some large 4140 parts welded. They had to be pre heated to 400F and post heated for a number of hours at 400F too.

I was hoping you were able to get them for scrap prices. Sounds like they are going to be to rich for my blood. Good luck with the sale.
