Hello......
I'm a homesteader on his way to less reliance on the greater world around me. I don't mind the world, just prefer my own better.
Like most folks here I've driven more things than I can remember but presently I have just a JD L120 for around the property, 5 acres with 3 more soon to become part of the "spread". It's a nice little workhorse. Before long I'll be looking for something more substantial as I expand my projects. This year will be the addition of two more 24'x6'x3' garden beds, then fill in of a low spot (about 1200 sf) to plant apples, peaches and grapes and the beginning of a 5 year plan to level the garden area to a flat plane....the yard is more like a wave pool than the typical backyard. Along the way will be a aquaponics greenhouse powered with wind. Also on the books is cutting a 100yard path into the woods for a target backstop. I'm gonna need a real machine for all this.....so here I am, ready to learn! For this year's plan I am borrowing a front end loader but I know I'll need to get something of my own.
I have a small flock of laying hens and will be doing 3 batches of meat chickens, 25 in each batch. We have 2 coops and I plan on expanding the layer coop. In a few weeks I'm taking delievery of a top bar beehive. Last year was the other two garden beds and 30' of raspberry bushes, along with 2 cords of firewood. Since I'm more or less retired I'm staying busy and building the life I always wanted. I raised 3 daughters and a son and have one daughter left at home....she begins her driving lessons next week. 6 cats, one dog and a rooster named Stew.
I'm looking forward to learning what I don't know from people who did the hard learning for me. I thank you in advance.
