Went sking at Steamboat Springs and the moisture content of the snow is much lower - skiers love that "Champagne Powder."
Here we are at sea level, so we get higher moisture content snow that is often wind-packed, to boot. We have a place in NH and removing snow is a lot easier.
This was at our old house in Boston. The plow would plow the snow up against your car. Along with being comppressed they'd often laid down salt to make it even denser. I progressed from a 1970 Ariens 5hp to an ST824 and neither would cope with it. Finally we got this 2004 1124, which had a 24" bucket and a Tecumseh OHV rated at 11.5hp and about 15 ft lbs of torque. We would clear a space and the neighbors would pull forward to do the next: saved hours of shoveling.
