And to be more clear, I was referring to the 16' being recommended on here. I personally like the aluminum. However the cost difference is huge.

Thanks for the input on this one.

A steel decked car hauler weighs 2100 ~ 2300 lbs plus... Come on, you can't compare a wooden decked, angle iron steel trailer to what is offered by featherlite, or any of the other aluminum manufacturers.

FWIW, our Aluma 7818 lists as 1200 lb. leaving us a 5800 lb. payload potential.

Define compare? as in how do they both haul a 2600lb machine? then yes they both perform exactly the same.

Shure you can say the wooden deck will rot, and ill say you cant put sides on yours and haul sand/mulch/dirt. Each has pros and cons, but in terms of recommending a trailer to suit the stated need by the OP, a featherlite AL trailer would be perhaps the last recommendation I think many people would give.

My 18' aluminum trailer weights 1205 lbs. Is I it needed for the OP's job- probably not, but he wants to spend the money for a aluminum trailer- good for him. I have twice and have no regrets. I paid $1800 for my single axle 12' trailer and sold it 11 years later for $1600. Not sure many steel trailers would look good enough after 11 years to have that kind of resale.

My 18# steel trailer weighs 1,250#. I added a spare so call it 1,300#. Cost $1400 new in 2004. Guaranteed I can sell it for that today. It lives in my Pole Barn and looks like new.
