WHOA ... No way in he]] I'd ever get under a tree leaning toward me after it has been partially cut. If the tree's hinge breaks, or the jack fails then kiss your butt goodbye!
I don't find that ironic at all. Heating your house with your own wood can save you $3000 or more per winter and a tractor can help you cut enough wood to heat several houses. So do you want to burn middle east oil and send your money up the chimney or make the payments on your tractor?
I also save a pile of money burning firewood...
Much of it folks give me, even though I do have my own woodlot and we cut until the snow makes it dangerous for us to do so, as there's also "next" winter to cut for...
Anyway, I skid out the logs with my skidding winch and then hold them over a wagon, to chainsaw them into firewood lengths,
![]()
with that done, I pull the load home,
![]()
and get my splitter into place, right along the wagon. That way I can roll the BIG blocks right onto the splitters beam,
![]()
My wife just loves to run the splitter...
![]()
and it goes pretty fast, as my splitter has the power to push EVERYTHING right through the 4-way wedge!
![]()
and it all ends up into these 1/2 cord boxes that I build,
![]()
that once loaded, are VERY easy to move to a drying area,
![]()
and then back to the house in the fall or winter, to be thrown down into my basement for burning...
I save about $1,800.00 a year on my heating bill by burning wood and that's after I deduct the cost of cutting wood. (we consider our labor free as we like doing things for our selves)
That's all extra $$ for "other" things we want!

Thank you! I can see that if you have your wits about you it can be quite useful. The point where you should stop cutting and start jacking being the point that will get newbies in trouble.
What engine is in that? Duetz? Perkins?
What engine is in what???
