Wrong place at the right time.........

Hello mx842 - I live in Goochland 1/2 way between Richmond and C'ville. Glad you are ok. I started wearing chaps and a helmet/face shield after visiting the ER 3 times in a quarter for crud in my eye and then reading a few fatality reports involving chainsaws. At 45 I am planning on making it past 50 by using that sort of thing. Might be worth a little inconvenience to start wearing the PPE.

I am glad your safe. I had a friend who was not so lucky. He was cutting wood on the back forty as we say down here in AR. And, a limb fell and struck him in the head and killed him. Was sad he was a young man and left a family.

Thanks!! Sad story there......It's always sad when someone leaves this world before their time especially for their family. I have a sorry azzed brother in law that wouldn't take a lick at a snake if it was about to bite him. He was laying on his big fat butt while my sister was out cutting firewood to keep his sorry azz warm. She had no business messing with the saw in the first place but she is an ol country girl that would rather get what's needed to be done rather than fuss about it. I had cut the tree down but was in a hurry that day and couldn't cut it up. It was hanging over a light line and her pool shed and she was afraid to cut it down. After I got it on the ground I told her not to mess with it that I would be back either later that day or the next morning. Well I didn't show up that afternoon so she decided to cut it up herself......what's the worst that can happen??? She hates to ask anyone to help her but 45 or so stitches and two front teeth later that question was answered. The saw kicked back in her face and although she came out of it okay she still bears the scars today and still happy that she can tell the story about it. My brother in law is still as sorry as he ever was but at least he got off the sofa and called 9-11 for her.

 I always get cornfused with that saying. Either way you want to put it I still think that tree was standing there for who knows how long waiting for me to come within range so it could fall on me. In that case, for the tree anyway....it was the right time. For me however it for sure was the wrong time. My neck and head where it hit that pile of wood on the ground still hurts:eek:uch:

I am sorry to hear about the saw accident. Equipment can be dangerous even when we have experience.

Evidently trees falling on people isn't that rare after all. I went by to visit one of my sons yesterday at his work place. None of them visit us at home much anymore as they left the nest long ago and are doing their own thing now. So, if I want to see them I have to go visit them.

I was telling him about my incident with the tree falling on me while I was cutting wood. After a little discussion about what had happened he told me that he was glad it wasn't any worst than it was and that I was lucky. He went on to tell me about one of his friends that was not so lucky. They were drinking buddies and a short time earlier he had lost his driving permit for driving after having one to many beers....(probably 10 or so too many}. He still had to get to work so he would ride a bike or his brothers moped to work or where ever else he had to go. One day he was headed to work on the moped and while he was riding along, a big tree decided to fall on him as he rode past and It killed him instantly. It was just a freak accident that didn't have to happen but did and it took the life of this young man who had not really fully realized what life was all about. Your's, and my son's story got me to thinking a little more about how lucky I was with my tree story.
