Hello, everybody I just bought 6 acres and haven't started clearing yet for thetter guide driveway or the house. Obvoiously I will not be clearing the land with my tractor, but will have to maintain the driveway and the land after the initial clearing and the hose is built. The land is 90% hardwoods and significant work is yet to be done. I know that I will have to have a tractor too maintain the acreage, and have been reading everything i can find, this forum is the best I have found. In preliminary searches, for my area, Kubota seems to be the dealer of choice. Below is a listing from that dealer, and I was hoping to get some feedback. Is this a good deal, typical, or over priced? This is a package deal they offer. Thank you. There are many others, but I thought this was one of the ones that fit my profile, minus the BH option that I dearly want.

?9 HP ?WD 必ubota loader ?' Land Pride Box Blade ?' Woods RC5 Cutter 18' 7K with Trailer Includes Chains and Binders! 彦REE Husqvarna 240 Chainsaw or YETI Cooler!

ONLY

$25,000 Cash

If this is your first tractor then don't buy on impulse. Have you went and sat in the various brands and driven any ? Do you want a HST ( Hydro ) or shuttle shift. You have to get some seat time to see and feel if the controls are comfortable for you to use. Will the size of the tractor be to big to get around the trees, etc ? Does the FEL have quick disconnect feature on the bucket ?

I just bought a used ( 2 yrs old ) 28 hp Kioti with 190 hrs, lucky find. Very good tractor and well built. I live in the Cherokee National Forest in Tenn. so i needed something not to big to get around. I have a 1/4 mile of stone road to maintain, so a box blade will be a necessity. I looked at the width and weight of tractor, as it is hilly and didn't want to be a rollover victim by buying something to narrow.

I see where you live in Moncks Corner, SC. I have a friend Sam Lassiter who lives there also, would you know the name ? We were air force aircraft mechanics back in the 70s.

Good luck in your search....and ask all the questions needed !! Is the dealer close by for repairs?

Chuck

Which Kubota model is it? 39hp could be the new L3901 or a Grand L 3940 (prior year model). If it's the L3901, go to Kubota's Build My Kubota site and build one and check the price and deduct about 12% from that price. Most dealers seem to be willing to discount prices about 10% - 12% from the Kubota "sticker" price. Some people have even gotten as much as 15% off, but I think that's the exception rather than the rule.

Assuming it's a new 3901, is it 2wd or 4wd? HST or gear transmission? Ag tires (R1), Turf tires or Industrial tires (R4)? Skid Steer Quick Attach (SSQA) loader or pin on loader bucket? All of these will affect the price.

Any rear hydraulic couplers included? You will want at least 2 sets.

You will also want the extendable lower lift arms for the 3 point hitch. I think those are an option. I don't know what they cost, but they are worth it. Trust me on this one.

So, without knowing any of that, it's hard to give an opinion on price. I would guess that the Land Pride box blade and Woods rotary mower would be worth $2,500 total (but I'm guessing on that), and the trailer might be worth $2,500 (and I'm assuming it has brakes on it).

So, allowing $5,000 for the box blade, mower and trailer, his price is $20,000 (cash) for the tractor. If the tractor is 4wd with HST transmission and has the SSQA loader package, $20,000 would be an excellent price for the tractor. But, at that price, I suspect he priced you a 2wd tractor with a gear transmission.

Bottom line is we need more info.

39 hp is a lot of tractor for 6 acres, depending of course on what you actually intend to do. Based on the limited information available, I would suggest taking a look at the 25 - 30 hp range and focus on 4WD and hydro transmission.

actually, this a 2015 L3901HST 0 hours with Ag tires, 4wd, and Hydrostatic trans. So I can assume this a fairly good deal. I have not been to the dealer and looked at it yet, and no further details were listed.

I just looked up the Woods RC5 on Tractorhouse.com, and it looks to be about a $1,300 mower. And the box blade is probably a $600 box blade. So I'd figure about $2,000 for the cutter and box blade.

I'd look the trailer over carefully and make sure it has brakes on at least one axle and is well built. If it does, it's probably at least a $2,000 trailer up to $2,500.

Even allowing only $4,000 for the mower, blade and trailer, that leaves $21,000 for the tractor and loader. (I'm ignoring the chainsaw/cooler throw-in.) The L3901 with HST, 4wd and a loader adds up to $26,000 on Kubota's Build My Kubota site. So, $21,000 for the tractor/loader seems like a good deal to me.

I would strongly encourage you to negotiate three things into the deal even though they will cost extra:

1. Add at least 2 sets of rear hydraulic remotes.
2. Add the extendable lower lift arms. Your back will thank me later.
3. Have them fill the rear tires.

I would agree.

Yeah, I guess it is a lot of tractor. Steen seems to have quite a few decent package deals. Just thought this might be an opportunity to "get more tractor".

As long as you are looking in the "L" size series, the 2501 and 3301 appear to be the same wheelbase as the 3901 you looked at. Do they offer either of these models with same or similar package? Maybe they are giving a great price on the 3901 package.

Do they have any package deals on the larger "B" series?

Anyway, just a thought, and for six acres if you have the work for it, I don't think one of the "L" series listed is too large a tractor. Enjoy your search and look again at them and get what you want...you will know when you see what feels right to you.
