That's the point... police will not handle it.

One street over several cars had windows popped Friday night... all on the street in the early monring hours.

Would think four late model cars being broken into and having contents removed would generate at least one police officer response?

Cars broken in are 2014 BMW 328i, 2015 Toyota Prius, 2012 Honda Accord, late Model Toyota Tacoma...

All were told to go online and file a police report... as no officer or crime tech would be coming out or go to the city desk to fill out a report.

It is the same if you come home and find your home has been burglarized... the police will NOT come...

Since you have no law enforcement in the area.. Get on your pistols, get at least two more armed friends for backup, go to the car, and after you are SURE it is the right car, stick a gun up the guys nose, and tell him to hand over the keys. Drive off. They aren't going to call the cops, and besides they wouldn't come anyway.:) If that is not your style, then collect the insurance and go on.

If only this was Texas or Branson...

As mentioned... Police as policy no longer respond to property crimes... sad but true.

Police do respond to all calls involving a gun, domestic abuse and assault... that is about it and the criminal element knows it.

And while many people here are armed, the funny part is we have pretty good police forces. They would be all over this stolen car thing like a chicken on a junebug. That is to say, they would most certainly respond.:)

Just got off the phone with the Sheriff Department and explained the situation again and received the same answer.

Looks like my only option going forward is to simply answer the ad and show up... the Deputy advised against this saying answering the ad could put me in harms way.

What about the highway patrol?

It's just frustrating to be violated... especially when it's your 80 year old Mom.

The standard Law Enforcement reply is property crimes are less than low priority and this the reason for insurance.

Crime is out of control... standing room only at the Police Chief Town Hall a few weeks back and the Chief painted a grim picture frankly stating unless a gun is involved or a physical assault... don't count on a Police response.

Within the last two weeks I have had connections to the following:

Two separate murders (14 year old and a 20 year old)

Several residential break ins

Several commercial break ins

Mom's stolen car

Several auto break ins

Keep hoping things will get turnaround for the better and it never happens.

I can't do much about any of the above except diligently search for a lead on Mom's stolen car by scouring for sale ads...

What about the highway patrol?

I went to the Castro Valley Highway Patrol Office last Friday with report in hand and asked the desk officer if he could run the plate for to check for an update.

The officer said it was not necessary and said the same as the Sheriff... if it turns up they will let us know... nothing I could do to change his mind.

Back when I was a kid and my Uncle was a Deputy the police had an entire auto theft unit... now it is all lumped under property crime... my Uncle passed away in the line of Duty and all of his friends have long retired.
