Care to guess on a truck problem?

Dodge was notorious for a 'no start' situation if the neighbours dog peed any where near it.:)

??? Never had any starting issues with any Dodge I've ever owned.
Only thing I've noticed with my '02 Dakota is that if the battery goes dead it causes the computer to go stupid and won't idle. Disconnect battery for 10 min or so, re-connect and all's well.

I still think simple DC electrical troubleshooting, meter reading and the basics of ohms law should be a subject in 8th or 9th grade science class with about a week spent on it.. For the love of Pete, there is so much "garbage" taught to our children, why not teach them something useful?..

What??? And interfere with self esteem or anti-bullying classes??? :yuck:

Just did the joints on my 05 last year. While Moog is typically good stuff, not the case (at least according to all the reviwes and research I did) for the AAM front axle in these trucks. Assuming we are talking about the 2500/3500's.

There were a couple of real expensive ones but dont recall what the brands on them were at the time. Caroni? I think was one. But the next best thing everyone was recommending was raybestos joints.

That is what I've heard too. (There are better choices than Moog, for those heavy Dodge applications).

More accurately, I should have said - Don't waste time/money putting White Box parts into that front-end.

High wear is common - watch the ball joints too. Try Moog if you haven't already, those front ends will chew up low cost parts fast. Rgds, D.

Do not go with Moog. They use splined ball joints that will stretch the holes. The Moog hold up better than OEM but once story use a splined ball joint you can't use one that's not. go with Carli or Dyna Pro ball joints they will be the last ball joints you'll have to put in.

Those where the two. Highly regarded on other forums. Just couldnt justify a $1000 ball joint change.

Next to those two, everyone was suggesting the raybestos as best of the "lower price" ones.

Any idea if this only applies to the aam front ends? I have a '96 2500 that needs ball joints and was planning on using moog, but I remember you making this comment on another thread. I believe mine is a dana axle, does it matter?

Not sure on your specific dana axle. Which I believe is a 44? Never done ball joints on one so never searched. Sites like cummins forum, pirate4x4, etc is where I found most of my reviews when searching for the 05.

I have used moog parts on dana axles before. Never had any issues but also never read any reviews about them. But I do not think ball joints are a weak link you your axle like they are on the AAM axles. Thus the diligent research I did on them in the quest for the best (within a reasonable price).

Again, I really dont think you have anything to worry about. The issues with the AAM is that only the lower is an actual "ball" joint that carries weight. The upper is just basically a pin in a bushing that carries no weight, and is allowed to move up and down (as well as rotate). So with only 1 joint to carry the load And an undersized one at that (especially with a cummins + snowplow), they wear out pretty quick.

It's a dana 60, actually iirc the sticker says spicer 60. I've had the truck for 11 years. Bought it with 84k, now has around 162k. Drove it a lot for the first 5 years, now it's barely driven. I've done them twice already and it's due for them again. I was using duralast I think, but would like to get something better.

I have never owned a dodge , but I owned a new and used tire shop for 12 years. I have seen a lot of wiped out front suspensions, and a lot of them were dodge, I wont go into my preferences, but I will say, the percentage of dodge suspension problems were significantly higher other brands, i.e. 2000 up Dakota and Durango ball joints were recalled because they were popping out of the sockets at around 60-80k. My buddy had a 99 which were the same part # but weren't recalled. we went through a cheap set pretty quick , so replaced again with moog , they held up much better. Imho I think dodge underbuilds their suspension.

Dana 60 is a nice piece. I would have any issues running the moog joints there.
