How many of you have a first aid kit on your tractor?

I have two in the Freightliner and none in my Jeep or the tractor.

I thought about getting one but the only place to put it was where the beer holder is. I couldn't eliminate the beer holder so I still don't have one. I usually just rub some dirt on it and get back to work. I learned that at man school!!

Several years back a guy out west of town managed to get caught up in his baler and it ripped both his arms off at the shoulders, plus all his clothes except his boots and socks. He walked a fair distance to a neighbour to get help; scared the neighbour's wife half to death when she went to see who was booting the door, opened it and saw a naked armless man covered in blood! He survived amazingly enough.

The one thing I learned from this was that REAL MEN don't need First Aid Kits!

Similar thing happened to a teen age boy in Iowa with a PTO shaft several years ago. When his parents came home he was sitting in the bathtub. He apologized to his Mom for getting blood on the floor.

Funny story. Few years ago on Thanksgiving day while finishing up the meal my wife cut her finger pretty bad. We were having a big family gathering in the shop. I didn't have a kit. She used Duct tape to wrap it. She's a keeper.

A first aid kit on a tractor is a good idea, although I do not have one. On my property the farthest that I can be away from the house is 700 or 800 ft. Some of the guys that have large parcels of land, it would probably make more sense !

I carry "Sting-Kill" swabs with Benzocaine for Yellow Jackets. Also good for Jellyfish but they aren't big problem in Indiana.

That's a good idea if you spend time off the tractor cutting wood and whatnot and can run to the tractor whilst running away from them, but if your butt is in the seat when they attack, ya might find yourself running away from the kit. My tractor is too slow to flee from bees.

I keep a a bag with wound stop powder, gloves and a tourniquet on my tractor. Duct tape would work for many emergency needs.

My uncle severed his hand in a bean header many years ago before cell phones and fortunalty JD had a first aid kit in the cab with a tourniquet in it. He tied off his wrist, grabbed his loose hand and drove the combine to the shop, got in his truck and drove to the hospital. Doctors said the tourniquet saved him. They actually put his hand back on his arm but it never worked right.

And as stated earlier, "he learned that in man school". He's probably here today because he didn't have a cell phone and have the mentality to wait for someone to come and save him. Our technology has softened us.

I have a St-John Ambulance kit on my tractor, in each of my vehicles, in the house and in the workshop. I added surgical gloves and 325 mg Aspirin pills to all my kits. The gloves because you may have to help out someone you don't know and the Aspirin in case of a suspected heart attack (you or someone else) Chewing two Aspirin is recommended as a first step in the case of a heart attack. The only problem here is if the person is already taking blood thinners.

Something I don't yet have is a combat tourniquet on my tractor. I have one in my truck but not one one my tractor. It used to be tourniquets were a no-no, but Gulf War 1 and II and Afghanistan showed they can literally save a life when someone is bleeding out. In our context, that could be from a bad chain saw cut. You can find them for about $12 on line.

The very first step though is to take a recognized first-aid course bringing along your significant other. You never know, she may the one to patch you up after you did something to yourself. Sure, you'll probably have to listen to her telling you how stupid you were, but you'll be alive to hear all that nagging.
