How to "relax" and "let it go"

I learned how to play a few musical instruments. Anything art related seems to be helpful.

Sounds like OCD to me or at least a type A personality. I'm a C or maybe even a D. (years of working as a government lackey will do that to you).
I don't know of any effective cure for your condition but might i suggest you buy a dairy farm with about 100 head of cattle. You will never run out of stuff that really needs doing and you will look normal if a bit tired to everyone around you.
I don't know as we should offer congratulations or condolences to your wife for putting up with you. A great Lady for sure.

I try to put things into perspective. I have worked so much and so hard for the last 20 years, A couple years ago I sat back and looked around, and realized some things just really don't matter. The small piles of wood chips at the wood pile would be one of them.

I hear ya.

But for someone with this condition, it's not that simple. Actually, when I think about it, nothing is simple for that personality type. Everything is huge. There will be a few seconds of thought put into which pair of socks they put on in the morning. Saying is just really don't matter is not in their vocabulary. :(

This works for me. Never put off until tomorrow what your wife can do today.

You sound normal to me. I just finished washing, waxing, greasing, fouling and painting the exhaust to put my snowmobile away. I only put 100 miles on it this winter. My wife said it was ridiculous so I didn't ask her for help when I did the same thing to her machine.

Some people say I'm OCD but I think I'm just a little particular. Spring and fall seems the hardest as there is so much to do with the change of the seasons.

People do tell me I need to RELAX and not stress so much. Maybe you should be my neighbor so we would seem more normal.

Is anyone else as ridiculous as I am? If yes, how do you tell your mind to "SLOW DOWN" to relax and enjoy life a bit?

Its hard! When I take a week's vacation from work it takes me 3-4 days just to stop thinking about what needs to be done at work. That only leaves 1-2 days to relax before thinking about coming back to work! :confused3:

It drives me nuts!

However, I only have that problem with work for someone else where I get paid. At home, projects can wait if fun with family interrupts them. I do make sure the dishwasher is loaded every night and the wood stove area is swept up each time or it gets tracked all over the room, but otherwise, it can wait. :)

When I get the urge to work , I sit in my chair with a nice cold brew until the urge subsides .

I am one of those types where everything has to be just right. Can't go to bed at night with dirty dishes in the sink. Must sweep up every last piece of debris around the wood rack after bringing wood in in the evening, and after each loading of the wood stove. And, it all has to be done NOW.

I go nuts in the winter thinking about all of the projects that I have to work on in the spring. Now that spring is here, I fret about the weather and when it will stop raining long enough to get something done.

It's tough to take an actual vacation because I think about what I "should" be doing back at home. I use about half of my vacation days to actually work on projects. The other half are actual vacation or a little padding around the holidays.

I do well at work (both jobs), but I find myself drifting off thinking about all of this other stuff sometimes.

While there are a few projects that actually do need to be done, a lot of it isn't time sensitive. I have found that I rush through some projects, not doing the quality of work that I am capable of because I'm in a hurry to move on to the next thing.

The little bark pieces next to the wood rack can wait until the whole floor gets swept in a day or two. Those two glasses in the sink can get washed after breakfast tomorrow.

I don't know how my wife tolerates it!

Sounds normal to me. In fact, you could have been talking about me. Don't know how your wife tolerates it? Same here. When I'm trying to get something done right now, she's quite likely to say, "Why don't you wait until tomorrow (or next week)?"
