How to "relax" and "let it go"

Golf stresses me and bores me beyond belief. What time I've spent watching those playing I think it has that affect on a lot of people. Maybe that's why they drink so heavily??

Take some lessons so you aren't just a terrible hack out there. Then get out and play often - you'll learn to love it!

Maybe you need to take some welding lessons so you aren't just a terrible hack at it. Then get in there and weld often - you'll learn to love it! :p

Since buying a new property, building a new house, and having a kid all in short time, I have really learned to let things go. Was just not even possible to do everything to my usual level of control or perfection anymore, so in a way I had no choice. That said, a crisis will still pop up every so often with my business that demands attention NOW, and I'd love to be able to deal with those better.

I grew up on a golf course. My father loved it and golfed six days a week from his retirement right up until the stroke that killed him. I used to golf every day after school, just for something to do. One day I realized that I really enjoyed the walks and the company and didn't really care about the golf so I quit.

Different people like different things. I like felling trees, splitting wood, clearing brush, etc. So I make time to do that stuff. I hand split a couple cord of wood last year and I don't have any place to burn it... For other people those things are work and just add stress.

The key is to figure out what is leisure for you. Forcing yourself to start a hobby because you think you need it to relax is just giving yourself another job.

There is some good advice here. I really like the "will this matter in 20 years" question. We are thinking about starting a family in the next year or so and I don't want to miss the kid(s) growing up because I'm too busy applying armor all to my mower deck casters.

Matter to whom? At my age, there's no way I'm going to live another 20 years, so it sure won't matter to ME!:laughing:

Kids grow up so fast, and there is an accelerated amount of development when they are just past the infant stage and into the toddler years (during the infant stage, you're just a sleep deprived caregiver and I don't think it gets interesting until about 7 months old). If you blink, you can miss some amazing stuff. So definitely make the time to be around. It could be as simple as scheduling your projects and work around nap time and sleeping time. I now get a lot of work done during the mid-day nap period and from 8pm-midnight.

That's funny -- one of my replies to a lot of life's responsibilities is that I will be dead by then, so it will be someone else's problem!
