Mahindra: Nothing but problems

Thanks for the hose sizes. I already went the dealer route to try and get them covered, but that was a no go and they wanted a little over $300 to do the job.

I've traveled around this world a bit, India, China, Japan, DR, Europe, etc. Nothing like meeting folks in their own domain to rid yourself of any remaining bits of racism.

India is very diverse, much poverty and lack of education for sure in some areas, but also some very bright minds that are incredibly educated. Remember, in India if you are one-in-a-million, there are 1000 others just like you. If you are going to move up the ladder in a corporation, you must be very bright and hard working.

It is interesting to see the things that are allowed in India, as you mentioned people hanging off the sides of trains or riding on top, or 6 people on a tractor or an entire family of 5 on a scooter. Obviously unsafe and I don't condone it, yet I admire the "get it done" attitude and the lack of the government telling people what is safe and what is not. Now contrast this with the USA and the incredible amount of laws and regulations. We have gone too far the other way. It must look peculiar from their perspective as well when they visit us.

As mentioned, most of the smaller Mahindra tractors are built in Japan like your 1720 was, or in South Korea. The quality is pretty top notch.

I think I am contributing to us going off subject, so I'll leave it at that.
Dave,
I'm trying to picture you hanging off of a train in India. Not sure about your math, but if anyone could hang off of a train in India, it would be you. You are the voice of reason in this case. By the way, I like Rush and the conversation he brings to the table. Agree or not.

I was fortunate to be a guest of Mahindra and they pampered us in a big air conditioned Volvo bus. I think hanging off a train might be a thrill, but driving in Mumbai would certainly be an "E" ticket ride. The cab drivers are highly skilled, fun to watch.

They two biggest scares in my life in an auto I've had that were not self inflicted is a Taxi ride from a drug crazed Taxi driver in Pennsylvania and riding in a Ta-Ta at 25-30 mph in India.

I致e fell asleep in the back of a Benz in the UAE rolling down the highway at well over a hundred.

There is another thread running on TBN entitled "Kubota Junk". I'm a Mahindra owner, but I think we can all agree that Kubota makes a fine machine (I just think that Orange paint like the Green paint must be VERY expensive to justify their high cost). That said, there are very unhappy Kubota, Deere, New Holland, Yanmar (etc) owners just like there are unhappy Mahindra owners (check other threads on TBN). EVERY manufacturer will have one every now and then leave the factory that is a rolling nightmare. I have also had this happen with autos, tools, and home appliances to name a few. What makes the difference is whether or not the manufacturer and maybe more importantly the dealer stands behind the product and rectifies the situation. As for me, I have not had any problems with my Mahindra and the normal issues (service, delivery etc) the dealer has been great. Hopefully this continues to be a very happy relationship.

Since we're bringing Kubota up in a Mahindra thread. One of the reasons I went Mahindra over Kubota (besides the 1000lbs of extra weight the Mahindra provided being handy for the dirt work I wanted it to do): There are more USA made components on my Mahindra than on my brother in law's Kubota. :)

Well put. If you bought a lemon of any brand and were messed around by the dealer and/or distributor, would you buy another tractor of that brand in the future if through a different dealer and distributor?

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I always try to place blame squarely on the person most responsible for any issues I have, even when that person is me...
