You won't want to be buying any Italian made (painted) tractors, the original paint comes off in sheets!

What italian makes are you referring to? Information never hurts anyone :)

Always learning things I didn't even know I didn't know...

No snow or salt conditions here in my part of California... I bought a car once from the east and the salt had really taken a toll... not even on the radar when I was shopping and it was enough for me not to keep it.

Tough decision because it is only new once...

I see tractors trucked on flatbeds daily on my highway commute to work, never seen one tarped or shrink wrapped.

I've also seen them tarped and not tarped . . Often "blue bagged". The ones I've seen untarped are in non winter weather conditions or short haul situations.

Now if you're talking used or construction related . . yet another story. One friend has several large backhoes and large cat. He's frequently hauling his own equipment from job site to jobsite without covering . But he never goes further than 60 miles each way.

Tarping tractors doesnt happen in my experience either. It would be a "special request" for any tractor to be tarped, it just isnt done. Thats not to say it cant be done, but it isnt standard practice.

It's simple. don't pay him a dime. New means NEW It may have say on another lot for months etc. IF it has rust showing etc. refuse it, it's that simple. Anytime I purchase anything and they ship it in I have a disclaimer that states purchase upon my FINAL INSPECTION.
It is the sellers best interest to make what I'm purchasing look presentable. When I order a new car I state will only accept car with under 10 miles on it. I give the dealer a sign to put in the car when it arrives NO TEST DRIVES ALLOWED ON THIS VEHICLE.
The accepting dealer should have detailed the tractor and removed or touched up any rust and made it look NEW.
You have ZERO obligation to buy this rusted piece of junk.

I would not accept it either. New should be new.. If you wanted a rusted tractor you would have bought a used one. I'm glad I read this, I have a new tractor coming the 20th of this month and it has a 250 mile ride here, I'm going to tell them if it doesn't look new when it gets here, I'm not signing anything and there check stays in my wallet..

Wouldn't most of the tractors we're talking about in this thread fit nicely into a semi trailer? Problem avoided.

Greetings,

I believe there is some miscommunication going on. Some are making good points about tractors being designed to get wet, muddy and be outside. But what some are missing in the process is this tractor apparently went 50 and 60 miles an hour unprotected in salt spray on a flat bed for hundreds of miles ?? Wind driven road salt bath.

Sorry . . . but tractors are not designed to do that uncovered. While some are focused on "paint", I've been focused on hydraulic ends, electrical contacts, switches, sensors, etc.. Travelling 60 miles an hour with "throw spray" increases the wind driven velocity even higher than travelling speeds. Also . . salt water is a lower salt content than highway salting. The sum total is salt concentrations going upward into areas never designed to see water much less road salt water. You can scrape/polish rust from steel, reprimer and paint. But you can't do that to electronic connections or "rapid oxidized" fine metal contacts or aluminum based corroded areas.

Take something really simple like a hydraulic valve and hydraulic hose end connections. Don't they have metals other than 100% stainless in them? The list is long.

I keep reading how the wouldbe owner is potentially "stuck" . . and in my opinion he's only "stuck" if he chooses to be.

Errors and omissions insurance is part of any trucker's and business owner policies typically (1 dealer or both dealers). I don't believe the potential buyer ordered a tractor that has had a salt bath for hundreds of miles in wind driven conditions with no coverings. The potential buyer is the victim of others actions or lack of actions.

Someone said tarping would cost something. Did the potential buyer say he didn't want to pay for tarping?

Someone said tarps cause paint scuffing. Huh??? I asked two different flat bed truckers that . . their comment was . . Only if you don't know what you are doing or don't care :)

Quick example. Your house gets a fire in it but its all smoke damage. 1st thing a good insurance adjuster does before anything else is replace water heater, furnace, all appliances, and any computer chip driven equipment and any dimmer switches . . . because they will all prematurely fail because both smoke and fire extinguisher propellant are caustic agents and seep into everything.

But we all deal with things in different ways. Happy Easter :)

So much for me towing my 'bota on my GN trailer to and from odd jobs at all times of year....

I have never seen tractors or equipment in general tarped. Same kind of electrical connections as we have under the hood on our cars.

So sorry, I just dont buy into your theory. :2cents:
