How to mount disc bearing assemblies

Hello,

I am building a row crop ridger / hiller and have these bearing assemblies which are around 4.75" x 4.75": Harrow Bearing, Disc Harrow Bearing, Square Bearing | Agri Supply, 58518, Harrow

I'm looking for ideas on how to mount these to the vertical risers on which they hang to the disc frame.

I'm thinking of running 3/8" x 4" flat bar down from the disc frame and welding a 5x6" plate to the end of each vertical drop for the bearing assembly to bolt to. However this would require adding a hole over 3" accross in each plate for the bearing assembly and I do not have a torch.

I'm contemplating using two pireces of 2" flat bar to create a "fork" that straddles most of the bearing, leaving less that needs cut out (just two crescent shapes on either side of the bearing).

How are these normally mounted?

Something like this is the way most are done, this one is from a smaller disc so they only use 3 of the four holes, the bigger heavier ones normally use all four by clocking the bearing a bit more.

My disc looks like this, but has a complete encirclement so it uses all four mounting holes. This makes for a much stronger mounting AND protects most of the bearing housing from directly dragging in the dirt.

Also a gusset is installed in the 90 bend between the two bolt mounting holes to keep it from bending due to side thrust from the disc blades.

Thank you all for the input. I didn't find drop pieces on Agri-supply, but may not have used the right search term. However from the beginning, I wanted to use material I already had, so I ended up using a 3.5" hole saw to cut bar stock to accommodate the bearing. Worked well.

Will try to get pics of the assemblies this week. Tested the hiller today and it worked well. Reduced several hours of hard work with a rake to just a minute of sitting in the tractor. I'm excited!

I'm not very excited with the quality of the cheap bearings and axle from Agrisupply. Granted the bearings were $11 ea (China) but i would have preferred to spend an extra buck or two on each one and have the bearings sit flat in the mounting brackets. I actually had to weld a couple of the supports slight angled so that the bearings ended up aligned with the axle. These stamped assemblies were easy, but after seeing them I'm curious what else is available.
