Man charged with child abuse after driving kids in back hoe

Gladehound is right - upcoming generations are coddled and shielded from responsibility. And in the end you've got young people who cant cope with things that are not text book perfect. I bet if everyone here had someone watching them at all times with their kids - every one of us would've done things that would've caused their ability as fit parents to be called into question. Our parents trusted us to ride in the back of a pickup at highway speeds, does that make them bad or careless because someone now says that's too dangerous?

If you were putting some on up in a bucket as we did as public school employees we were told by our insurance company rep that if OSHA finds out $20K for the operator and $20k for the person in the bucket. That it is not a secure level surface to stand on.

which is it..abuse or neglect? If you abuse someone, you're not neglecting them, and if you're neglecting them you can't be abusing them.

I may be wrong but I think the abuse can be when you deliberately do something to a child and neglect can be failing to look out for their safety. Not that I necessarily agree with it but loading them in there could be the abuse and and the same time he was failing to look out for their safety (neglect).

On the way home the other day I saw a skid steer in a tree line with the bucket all the way up. In the bucket was a guy standing, stretching way out with a chainsaw.... yikes!

Seems to be a bit hard on the poor guy.
In this country, all tractors are factory equipped with numberplates, lights etc just like cars and thus allowed on the roads (no driving license required).
I would never take children around on the tractor outside my property because I might not always be able to control the situation.
At home, I often take the children for a ride in the loader bucket or the trailor. Some Tractor by net members have called me names for that, but so far they haven't called in the police.

If the toddler in his lap decided to mimic dad and pull on levers he could dump the bucket and not a chance in h*** to stop before running over the 'pile'.

I see it often where one person's idea of safety is only what they read on the internet but I've got 'just a hunch' that fella had a reputation for doing other stupid things. I'll bet it was clear to those involved that that a warning would fall on deaf ears so they had to put some teeth in it.
