Moving to the Farm

I'm laying waterlines for my grapevines, blueberry bushes and orange trees. One use of buckets it to keep your spigots below ground level and sink a bucket around it, down to ground level. You cut the bottom out and use the lid to get to the spigot. It helps with freezing, and looks better too.

Another use is hanging tomato pots.

Looks like she likes the camera. She may grow up to be an internet star.

Just something for you to think about, Sister and BIL had been selling eggs for $1.00 a dozen {for eating}. They have had so many request for fertilized eggs that they sell more of them now than eating eggs, and they are getting $3.00 a dozen for them. But the kicker is if he runs the eggs through the incubator he gets $2 to $4 per chick for 1 day old chicks according to the breed. They are just now ramping up for more production and getting more snake proof pens built. The last hatching the snake got about half of the chicks.

Right now when I have extras I am selling them for $3 a dozen. I don't have nearly enough extra for all the people who want eggs. Chicks may be something I do in the future, we will see. Thanks.

The last hatching the snake got about half of the chicks.

Back when I was incubating I always did it inside in the daylight basement until the chicks were a few weeks old, then gradually moved them outside into snake/ferret/skunk proof pens.

Only two things are keeping BIL from getting a good set up like that. Time and money. He is having to go slow on building new pens because he has too many things going on, too little time, plus he is always about broke. He did buy PVC pipe and wire to make another chicken tractor when he gets a day off. A cross between Dominique and Sister's blue speckled chickens {I can never remember the names} is what is bringing the most money for eggs and chicks, and he is going to set up a flock just for breeding.
