You can also use a chain or cable to pull the tractor forward with the FEL. If you don't have hooks on the bucket that'll work, curl the bucket all the way back (or up) wrap the chain under the front edge around the top and hook to the cutting edge. Curling down will pull forward.

Hooking a chain to the cutting edge also works to pick things up, just that on a cut or subcut you can't lift very high

I get by with out a "tractor", but have to have a "machine" that I use instead of a tractor.

I have used a full size Cat. It weighed 25,000 pounds, and lifted about 6,000. It would lift 45 feet high. The tires were the same ones they use on a grader. It was 4WD, and 4 wheel steer. The maneuverability was good for a machine that size. It was a sweet machine.
