So, this story from California is just a hoax of some sort? I don't live there, so maybe someone who does can tell us more?
Documents Reveal Billions Of Gallons Of Oil Industry Wastewater Illegally Injected Into Central California Aquifers

Almost 3 billion gallons of oil industry wastewater have been illegally dumped into central California aquifers that supply drinking water and farming irrigation, according to state documents obtained by the Center for Biological Diversity. The wastewater entered the aquifers through at least nine injection disposal wells used by the oil industry to dispose of waste contaminated with fracking fluids and other pollutants.

Regarding the role of EPA in regulating fracking:
Federal Report EPA Fracking Oversight Not Enough

The agency's proper role in fracking oversight has been hotly debated as the shale gas industry grows and various states attempt to regulate it on their own. In fact, "the EPA cannot regulate the fracking process, because a 2005 law exempted from federal oversight the practice of injecting fluids into wells at a high pressure to break shale and retrieve oil and gas," The Hill reported.

However, the GAO said the EPA has a role in fracking oversight that it is neglecting.

I don't know how the EPA can effectively perform oversight over something that is exempt from federal oversight. Sounds like a lawyer's field day.

Can't tell the difference between legal and illegal actions? You must have your attorney on speed dial.

I doubt that Jatco would know a Luddite from a stump fence...but he knows what an OG shill is. ..Insults are not appropriate on this forum, according to the rules

This from a guy who misspells a five-letter name.

I think the only thing that got into California ground water was MTBE's, which they mandated be in everyone's gas. The biggest threat to Californians drinking a glass of clean water is the EPA. Lol. HS

FYI - In South Texas they are now injecting Fracking with CO2. That should end a lot of debates.

I'll bet someone thought it was legal at some point. It would be unusual for things to be done on that scale that are thought to be totally indefensible from a legal standpoint. Or, there was some serious corruption involved. Either way, the intentions of the fracking operators to cut corners for profit are clear, or they are so dumb they don't know what they are doing. Corruption, stupidity, ignoring the law, none of those are good things.

Legal or illegal, fracking resulted in contaminated water supplies--I guess you can stop claiming it never happens. It would have cost something to ship that fracking waste water to somewhere that has the correct geology to contain it. My guess is that is why it didn't happen.

The 2005 law that limited the EPA oversight of fracking is a clear sign that the fix was in to do things on the cheap. People want energy but they want it done responsibly.

This is what happens when the oil and gas industry "owns" a state.

Last November the city of Denton, TX passed a fracking ban within the city limits. The vote was 59% in favor of the ban.
In Denton, Texas, voters approve 'unprecedented' fracking ban - LA Times

In response, the Texas legislature passed a no fracking ban bill, basically taking away local control and running over property rights.
Texas House approves so-called

If the folks in Denton got it wrong, that oil and gas will still be there if they change their minds or less intrusive fracking methods are developed. I sure don't understand the Texas Leg. ramming laws down the throats of citizens who don't want them.

No, it's the city who is running over property rights, the State is restoring them, city has no right or authority to tell people they can't frack on their own land. HS

There are a lot of people that own mineral rights and a whole lot more that work in the oil industry. Most of the land owers in this county own their minerals or part of them and have seen no ill effects of fracking - YET. In this area a hundred years ago people use to come in their horse drawn buggies to the springs and bogs to see the natural gas and blue flames dance around. It was their source of entertainment. And that was long before any wells were drilled.

You would have valid point if the impact of fracking on their own land was contained just to their land only.
