It would be nice not to take so much abuse to my rear, are there any seats that have a shock absorber in them?

The stock L3400 is a suspension seat. is yours frozen? They often are. Lube it up good with your favorite "break her loose oil". and then hold on to the ROPS and stomp up and down violently with your foot until it breaks loose (the Wiley Coyote stomp). This can take some time. don't give up. Then adjust the seat suspension preload with the T handle adjuster on the back of the seat plate. Good luck.

You can put an aftermarket suspension seat on it. The local tractor shop or tractor supply should have something that would bolt right up.

Some have rig 4 heavy coil spring to the seat w/good results.

Yep, it is a suspension seat. After sitting at the dealer before the sale, and never seeing use, they seize up. Once broke free, its much better. If that isnt enough for you, go slower. IMO, once the seat is freed up, thats all you need. If it still feels too rough, then you are being too rough on the tractor and likely to break something. Kinda a good indicator.

Ah, I don't think the one on my L is a suspension seat, it just has the two springs under the rear of the seat, IIRC.

I believe all of the L3400's were suspension. And if it has springs, yours is certainly no exception. Flip the seat up and you can see how it is supposed to work. Hit the parts that are supposed to move with some penetrating oil and give it a workout as K0ua suggested.

I would just about guarantee you have a suspension seat.. Do you have the T handle spring preload adjuster on the back? Bet you do. As far as I know all L3400 have the suspension seat. Never saw one that did not... Many of the L3700 packages did not. though.

Pay no attention to the two little vertical springs under the seat.. The major springs that hold your "self" up are horizontal and much more heavy duty, and are under tension.. These are the springs I am talking about. The black metal base plate is what has to move up and down. And unless kept lubed up, they sieze up, and cease to function.
