I have always used AMSoil in my GC2310. Now that I have a GC1710 Teir4 Engine, I thought I would ask Amsoil what they think. They said:

Engine - we recommend Heavy duty diesel and marine (AMEQT)

Hydraulics Universal tractor and transmission hydraulic fluid ( ATHQT)

Front Diff Same product as the hydraulics ATHQT

Grease for the bearings and loader rams AMSOIL product GLCCR multi-purpose grease NLGI #2

I have always used Synthetic SAE 10W-30/SAE 30 Heavy-Duty Motor Oil but they said it does not meet API spec. I have also used Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-110, however they say just use the Hydraulic fluid.

I was using Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease, NLGI #2 but man is it sticky ! I think it is the 5% Moly. Not sure if is really necessary.
Any thoughts on the Amsoil Recommendations ?

EP gear oil gives the highest degree of protection in the front diff.

No, it probably isn't necessary. But, it's only about $4 a quart for synthetic, if you shop around. So, I am running it.

The rest sounds fine.

Thanks ray66v, I was hoping you would chime in!

- So the Heavy duty diesel and marine (AMEQT) is just as good as the SAE 10W-30/SAE 30 Heavy-Duty Motor Oil that I used to use in GC2310 ?
- What weight of Severe EP gear lube would you recommend for the diff ?

J-D issued a "service advisory" to the effect that UTTO in the front axle improved service life of both bearings and seals, with no detriment to the gears.

Seems "win Win"! I have had to replace seals, 'never had trouble with gears.....

If Amsoil's reps are good with that oil, I am sure it's fine.

I used 80w-90 gear oil. Which, is approximately the same actual viscosity as the transmission oil.

One member did have to replace the gears on his GC.

To each his own. People who write service manuals, and bulletins have their preferences, which bias's their recommendations.

I have my own people, including a NASA engineer, and a TRW failure analysis engineer.

None of this is a big deal if you go either way.

Ok Thanks for the info.

Not sure why, but they said the Severe Gearョ 75W-90 SVGQT does not meet AGCO specs. To me, it is gears and some seals.... what would the Hydraulic oil give you that the gear oil wouldn't? Maybe I am worrying to much, not like there would be a lot of heat with tractor speed, although there could be lots of gear load.

I'm sure the J-D preference is to limit warantee costs.

That is likely the intent.

And, it could be in-fact be correct. But, it could also be a bulletin that has been issued by single engineer, who has authority to do so, based solely on his personal opinion.

I have been around long enough to have dealt with service bulletins, and building codes that made no sense in my application. They get my attention, but I don't accept them simply because they were written. I do my homework, and then decide how to proceed.

There is definitely a lot of anxiety by people over what oil to use. And, most of it is unnecessary.

The gear oil has been in my diff for almost 10 years now. No problems.

A close friend has a daughter, and son in law who are both JD engineers. I will also ask what they know about this, If I see them this summer.

I do find it curious that the rear end does fine in UTTO, but somehow the front end, should need high pressure lubricants. Maybe just a matter of "because we can"

Mostly Whatever floats your boat. 90% of this over the top lubrication worry is just a hobby. When real money starts talking, ... well, that's what tax write offs are for. '-)
